Pregnant after a Loss

Just got really short of breath

I was talking with a patient and their family for about an hour. I felt so winded, like I couldn't catch my breath for a few minutes. I don't know if is because I am so bloated or because of the progesterone shots I am getting. But, it was so uncomfortable and was worrying me so much that the baby wasn't getting enough oxygen. Has this happened to anyone else?

Re: Just got really short of breath

  • All the time. I was surprised how early it started too. Your heart is working hard to pump new blood around and get things going. If you get dizzy or if it persists, definitely ask your Dr. about it.

  • I feel really winded after taking the stairs, but also sometimes for really no good reason.  DH says it's because all of that extra blood circulating through my body.  I don't think it's a huge cause for concern, but I would take kathymarie's advice =)

  • Its happened to me.  Usually after running up the stairs.  Gets kind of hard to breathe and I feel little lightheaded.  Started earlier on than I expected.

  • Happens to me every now and then and the stairs are really rough for me.  I haven't mentioned it to my Dr yet but probably will at my next appt.  I read it was the extra blood thing too.

  • I've noticed this too, esp. when walking up stairs or other activity, but talking for a long time could totally do it too. If it goes away with resting I wouldn't worry too much. It's just all the changes in blood flow... baby is getting plenty, don't worry!

  • Yes, it started hitting me at 6 weeks, especially with stairs.  That was a really fun side effect in Italy.  DH thought I'd lost my mind for a while as I was so easily winded in a country full of stairs.
