My daughter is 6 weeks and my milk over the past week has been decreasing. I know this because I have pumped out a few feeding and have only been getting 1 oz from each breast. I was getting about 2-2.5oz per breast a few weeks ago. I am not sure what is going on. My diet has not changed and I am drinking a lot of fluid. Her feeding is still every 3 hours. Did this happen to anyone? Any advice appreciated.

Re: Breast Milk Supply Decreasing ?

It's normal to not pump very much while you're actively breastfeeding. I was freaking out before I went back to work because I would at most get 1oz out of both breasts. Now I'm about 2 days ahead of DD and have a healthy freezer stash. Kellymom is a great website for reference. Also, you're probably getting less now because your supply has regulated from when your milk first came in.

I got ahead a few ways.
I started pumping after her first and last feeds of the day while she was home with me. I saved about 2-3 ounces a day doing that. I still do that on the weekends.
I started powerpumping at night. After she goes to sleep I spend an hour with my pump. I pump 10 mins on and 10 mins off for an hour a night. It increases your supply and I get an extra 3-4 ounces every night.
I also pump 4 times while she's a daycare and feed her on lunch. Now, I WAH, so I know it's not realistic for everyone to do what I'm doing, but the more you pump at work the more you'll get.
I pump anywhere between 13-16 ounces a day and she eats between 9-12 ounces a day. My pedi's office also has an amazing LC on staff that is programmed in my phone. Kellymom.com is a great resource too.
