Has anyone made a diaper cake before?

Do you have a website you used? Or any pointers on making one? Would a diaper wreath be easier? I am going to attempt to make one for my best friend. Her shower isn't until mid May so I have a little time to figure out if I can do it. I am not very creative so this will be a challenging project for me. Thanks.

  • i never made one but among all that i looked at this seems to be the simplest instruction and  used the easiest to find material.

  • I've made several diaper cakes before and they are really easy.  I've never made a diaper wreath, so I don't know.  All you need is a huge box of diapers, white curling ribbon (cheap at Party City), decorative ribbon at least 2" thick, straight pins, and a cardboard bottom cut into a circle to support it all.  Take each diaper (don't unfold), but roll from the crotch up.  Take a piece of curling ribbon and tie it in a bow around each diaper.  Once they are all rolled, start layering them on the cardboard.  (You'll need another set of hands to hold the decorative ribbon.)  As DH holds the ribbon, you stuff diapers inside of it.  I typically use clear packing tape on the end of it so that when I'm ready to pin it shut with the straight pins they don't run the ribbon.  (Makes it sturdier.)  I use at least 2 pins.  Then move on up and do the same thing with another layer.  I usually make 3 layers.  Take lots of little things (clothes, burp clothes, bottles, stuffed animals, whatever) and stuff around between the pretty ribbon and the diapers.  You'll probably have to pull some diapers out and readjust as you place items in each layer.

  • I've made a couple and were pretty easy to do, and they both turned out really cute! I used this as a guide:

I've never made a wreath before, but here's a tutorial on that as well:

  • I made several mini diaper cakes for my sister-in-laws shower last June, and they were really easy. (a little time consumming though) They made great center pieces for the tables. Most of the post have already got the info I used, except I held my diapers together with rubber bands, and then hid the rubber bands with ribbons. I also used fake flowers to decorate them with, which I stuck on the cake with hot glue. Good luck!

Ditto this except I have used something (like a jar of Butt Paste) as the center of each layer that the diapers surround.  It makes a sturdier cake and also gives the mom-to-be a few more useful items. For the smaller top layer, use a small bottle of California Baby shampoo (or something similar sized).  A canister of formula can work well for one of the lower levels if the mom is going to FF.  A&D Ointment is another good size for that.  I also think it is easier to use small rubberbands around each diaper rather than tying them individually.
