preschool suggestions (3yrs) in memorial area?

my friend is moving to houston/memorial area from colorado and is struggling to find a preschool with openings for the fall for her son.

i love the bump atlanta and thought i'd come over here to see if i could help her out!!

church preschools are strong and popular around here, is that the norm in houston, too?

thanks so much!!!

  • Little Scholars is supposed to be a good preschool in the Memorial area. It is Montessori.

  • I meant to respond to this yesterday but got sidetracked.  I'm just going to list places, you should be able to find them on google.  Let me know if you can't.

Church schools are popular and there are lots of good ones, I don't know what kind of hours/days your friend needs or where there are openings but here is a list:

School of the Woods on Wirt Rd.

The Big Little School also on Wirt Rd.

    The Fay School

First Baptist at I-10 and 610

    Holy Spirit Episcopal

    Memorial Drive Methodist

The Yellow School at Memorial Drive Pres.

    St. Francis Episcopal Day School

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head, I'm sure there are lots more.

My big boy is bounding towards 4! Baby brother coming in October!

I've visited a bunch of the ones above in the past couple of days b/c I'm searching for the same thing.  I'm about to go enroll my kiddo at Ascension Episcopal, which isn't Memorial (it's in Briargrove Park), but is minutes from the Memorial area (we're moving over off Kirkwood and Memorial).  Right now is a REALLY difficult time to be getting into schools ~ almost all of them have a waiting list.

    Thoughts:

I really liked the Big Little School, but it's a bit far and I didn't want to do I-10 to Wirt if possible.  Liked it a lot.

I'm sure First Baptist is phenomenal, but that's also too far from me.  I love going to church there, though.

Holy Spirit ~ awesome school; extremely expensive.  They're also very structured, even for the preschool program (ie, even the 3 year olds have to be there by 8:20 am for the second bell).  I loved the school, but it's way out of our price range and I don't want that much structure in preschool.

St. Francis ~ same as above.  They're a wonderful school, though.

Memorial Drive Methodist ~ this is my first choice, but they have a waiting list for fall.  If they call me and say they have an opening, I'll enroll DD ASAP.

Memorial Drive Presbyterian (the Yellow School) ~ DD went from 6 months to 2 years at their CDI program and I absolutely ADORE them.  I would put her in the Yellow School, but I need to be able to leave DD at school three days a week until 5 or 6, and they don't offer those hours.  Otherwise, we'd be there again.

We also looked at Emmanuel Lutheran, Spring Branch Presbyterian Academy, and Christ Memorial Lutheran.  All great schools.

I am really impressed with Ascension and am excited about DD being there.  Going to enroll her right now :)  You might want to come look at it even though it's not actually in Memorial.  It really takes like 10 minutes maybe to get to and from this area to Memorial.

Whoops!  Didn't see it was for your friend, not you :)  Sorry!  Still recommend all those schools to her, though.  Oh, and Fair Haven Day School is another one.  Another Nestie's two kids go there and she loves it.
