I am so picky I had to pick out my own ring.. My DH kinda wanted to do it himself but I told him that I was the one who had to wear the ring for the rest of my life! It wasn't really a surprise at all because we already had the chapel booked for about five months before he proposed.. I am a planner and I couldn't stand not planning really far in advance! I felt bad because I know he wanted to surprise me but I really do hate surprises!

I had a hint that he was going to propose on Christmas, but he propsed a few days before while I was half naked, laying in the bed facebooking lol He said he wanted to surprise me but I already knew he was going to do it on Christmas so he did it a few days before. Real charming and memoriable huh?? lol

I hate surprises too! So he had to be extra sneaky. Its been almost a year since we got engaged. He proposed in a PARKING LOT! lol. He used a ploy for me to get to his vehicle and look inside. The ring box was on the seat. So he asked me and I didn't respond, I put the ring on and hugged him. He says "so thats a yes right?" Ooops. I forgot to tell him.

mine was similar, for Christmas DH gave me tickets to a vacation in Jamaica a few days later and while I was unpacking (buck naked) shortly after getting there I heard the box go "clunk, clunk, clunk" in the dresser as I was putting away our clothes so DH changed his nice romantic plans to propose on the beach and did it right there. Needless to say most people don't get the true version of our proposal.

I am such a planner and always know EVERYTHING that's going on. DH actually proposed to me on his B-day because he knew it was a perfect day where I would never suspect anything! We went golfing w/ a bunch of his friends friends, well the guys golfed, me and all the wives, g/f's had cocktails on the the outside patio and waited so we could all go to happy hour afterwards. When the guys came around to the 18th hole we went out the meet them, and he proposed right there. There was a balcony full of people at the clubhouse watching. I was SO shocked. DH pulled a fast one on me for sure!! Smile

We went to Hawaii to see some friends and I didn't think he would do it while we were there. That would be expected. He proposed under a waterfall! It seems I had been carrying around the ring for the last couple of days without knowing.

He won't let me forget that I didn't day yes at first but said instead, " Are you sure?"

Well, it's kind of both "he suprised me" and "we went ring shopping together".

We had talked about getting engaged for a long time and I knew exactly when he was going over to ask my parents permission. He went ring shopping with my parents, and all 3 of them knew exactly what I wanted (simple princess cut solitare). After he asked my parents, he suprised me by asking me right away. He said he was just too excited to plan anything fun! He originally told me that i'd have to wait maybe a few weeks until he asked me for real. So I was sitting on the couch in my PJs when he did it. Big Smile I wouldn't ask for it any other way!

MH proposed with a stone that his mom had left him when she died, not a ring. I was totally surprised, and so touched. We'd been talking about it for a long time, but I thought it would be another year at least before he proposed.

Anyway, the whole stone-not-ring thing was great in some ways -- I got to pick my own ring, yay! -- but I was surprised how much I wanted something to wear right away, and how hard it was to make the decision. I had a lot more sympathy for the plight of boyfriends everywhere after that. We ended up putting it in a cheap temporary setting so I could wear it while I agonized (for 6 months) over what I wanted for the forever setting. Ridiculous.

We went shopping together after we had been together for almost a year. I did NOT want to know exactly what ring he bought me, but I wanted him to know what I liked. So we looked around, I explained to him what I liked (antiquey looking, emerald cut). He ended up picking it out himself and it is/was everything I wanted even though I didn't know I wanted it. He didn't get an emerald cut, but that's okay. It is a radiant, but it's in the shape of a rectangle...not super common.

I was very surprised when he proposed. We had a little hiccup in our relationship (nothing major, I just got a little freaked out about how fast our relationship was going), so I was expecting it to happen in a year or so. He had bought the ring already when we had the hiccup, so I think he wanted to wait to make sure I was ready, but was still antsy to propose.

He did it at my sister's house. I thought we were just going there for dinner with my family. On the way up to the door he stopped me and gave me a gift. I could tell it was a picture frame, and in my head I kind of thought "why are you giving me a picture??" It was a picture frame, but in it was a sign saying "Will you marry me?" I screamed, cried, put out the wrong hand, and said yes!! My family (some aunts and uncles included) was there and so were his parents and sister. It was very memorable. Here's a picture from that night...I look like I got punched in the face...

We went hiking and stopped at a spot that has a great view and he proposed. We had talked about getting engaged but he picked out the ring himself (a beautiful antique setting) and I had no idea when he would do it.

I moved in with DH after about 6-weeks of dating. We had talked about getting married lots of times, it almost got to be a joke, like we would be someplace with a really pretty view (top of a mountain or something) and he'd say something like "it's really pretty here. Would you marry me here?".

So we went out to watch the 4th of July fireworks with his mom & her bf. We're sitting out on a boat dock, looking out over the bayou, watching the sun set (everyone else is on the other side of the dock, looking where the fireworks will be coming from). He asks me again, would you marry me here? I said sure, it's pretty here. And he said no, really, would you marry me. He pulls the ring box from his pocket & he's shaking so hard I had to take it from him so he wouldn't drop the ring in the bayou. Ofcourse I said yes, we watched the fireworks & then had dinner with his mom & her bf.

He told me later that his mom had helped him get the ring (she use to work in a jewelry store) & it had been hidden at her house for 2-months while he waited for the right time.

We had been dating for six years by the time he actually asked, so EVERYONE knew it was coming, it was just a matter of when. We had discussed my ring, and had gone to look once or twice, but I was just set on the three stone ring. A few years previous to him proposing I had asked him to take me to the melting pot one night, just as a date. We also loved to go to the predators games. So, one night, he bought me a jersey, with my fav player - Vokoun, and said we were going to sit like 7 rows from the ice, and afterwards we were going to the Melting Pot. I assumed he was going to ask me at the game, and that was the reason for the jersey, so we would be on the huge tv. NOPE. So, I assumed he was going to ask me at the melting pot...NOPE. So, now we are on our way back to the car to go home, and I have my arms crossed, I'm seriously pouting. (We had just taken a vacation to Atlanta over the summer and had stayed in the Weston Peach Tree, which has a HUGE observation area upstaris you can see the entire city) So, he says, Oh, come in to this hotel, it has a really pretty observation area...so I was like OKAY. never even crossed my mind what he was doing. So, were walking to the observation area, and suddenly he opens the door to a room, and there are rose petals EVERYWHERE and champagne, and every pretty girly romantic thing you could think of. =] OH, and my ring is NOTHING like what I had requested...its a million times better! I'm so glad he didnt listem to me!!

SO, even though we all knew it was coming, and even expected it to be that night, he threw me off and surprised me!!

I chose SS. He wanted to make sure that everything was perfect so we went ring shopping together. I had to get my hair cut so before my appointment, I found the perfect ring that I wanted. DH purchased it when I was at the appointment and I thought he was going to propose soon after. A month went by and he never proposed so I thought he never did buy the ring. I was on winter break from college and when we out for dinner and a nice restaurant, he proposed. Got on one knee and everything!

I was surprised, we never talked marriage and we had been dating a little over a year. It was my b-day and we went hiking up to the beautiful spot in Boulder - you can see the entire front range from there. It was also the site of our first date. He got down on one knee and popped the question. It was perfect too, because we were all alone up there (first time I've never seen people up there) and it was snowing big, fat flakes. Best.birthday.ever!

I told DH I wanted to be married by the time I was 30 but that I didn't want to know anything about the proposal--it had to all be a surprise. I didn't want to go ring shopping since the thought of it stressd me out.

He got my sister to find out what kind of ring I wanted and he worked with my close friend's mother to have it made.

We went out to dinner and then took a walk around the monuments at night (DC). We got the Jefferson Memorial and he took out a wedding invitation (because we're virtually professional wedding guests) and I asked who the hell was getting married NOW?! And it was an invitation to our wedding, that night, at the Jefferson Memorial.

Mine was intended to be a surprise, but I knew it was coming. One day I came home & checked the messages & there was a Fraud alert from his CC saying a ring was bought. When he got home I said that said CC company called with a fraud alert but I didn't listen to it fully "so I wasn't sure what it said". Then, when we were out shopping for Christmas Eve dinner he picked up a bottle of bubbly. I mean really DH? lol!! He's so darn cute. I asked him why we needed that & he blushed & said NYE. I made sure to make the day go slowly just to make him squirm. He was so obviously nervous & I had fun with it. We got home from shopping & I said I needed to run back out to CVS. Then when I came home from there I prepared dinner & got it in the oven, then set the table & then told him I needed a shower. After that he took his, & then he said that we should exchange a gift that night & the rest tomorrow. I told him that we should wait until after dinner & he got all antsy & said he couldn't. So he ran for the spare room & I ran after him to get his gift. We collided in the hallway & he told me to go sit down on the couch, so I did. Then he THREW the box at me... Yep, I said it. The dork, I mean wonderful man, threw the box at me from the hallway. After that I don't really remember much. except after I kissed him he said I never said yes or no & looked worried still. So I said "of course yes! DUH!" . LOL!!!! Funniest proposal ever.

DH proposed to me at Disneyland and it was a total suprise. I always knew I wanted him to choose the ring and he really knew my style and I was blown away by it. It's a little bit of a funny story because I am a Disneyland Drill Sargeant...I need to go first thing bright and early, hit all the big rides then just walk around, watch shows etc. So we get to the park and go full steam from 7am to noon. About noon he says "let's sit down for a while" and I was ready to sit because my feet were already tired. So we kept walking to find a place to sit and I kept finding places and he would say no not here not there... this went on for like 25 minutes and I was starting to get PO'd. Finally he see's a bench in Frontier Land off to the side and says we can sit there. After like 2 minutes he says,let's find another place to sit and I protested because he just dragged me all over passing up place after place to sit but he convinced me to get up again. We turned the corner and there is a little pathway connecting Adventure land and Frontier land that overlooks a pond and Main Street and a bench was there. This is where he finally asked and presented my ring in a beautiful elephant ring box (ellies are my fav animal). So later I find out he was trying to find a "private and quiet" place in the park...not so easy lol and the first bench had a cannon and a trash can in front of it. I had wanted to kill him and he was trying to find the right spot but I had no idea lol.

He missed his proposal. We were getting ready for a friend's wedding-and I had bought new shoes. He put a card asking me to marry him in the shoe box. His plan was that I would read the card while he was kneeling down helping me put my shoes on, and he would propose. However, at the last minuet he realized his pants didn't fit and he had to run to the store, and I finished getting ready-including putting my shoes on while he was gone! So I read the card, and when he got home I just said yes!

Mine is a combination... we picked out my ring together in February-ish, but I told him to surprise me with the proposal - which he DID surprise me with in May. I felt like it was the best of both worlds because I knew it was coming and I got to pick out my ring, but he still proposed traditionally and completely surprised me with that.

i was on stage in front of 300 middle schoolers doing a fire safety presentation, when i asked for my volunteer to come up on stage, he came up. i was pretty confused (it wasn't even his school, lol). he got down on one knee, and i was like "what are you doing???" *clueless* he pulled out a little box, and i started catching on. we had talked about getting married a couple times, but i didn't think he was serious (we'd been dating a year). i stuck my hand out with a goofy smile on my face and all jumpy.

we got a mix of "eww"s, "gross"s, and "aww"s when he kissed me, lol

and my buddies were so totally in on it!

I fall into the both category's too.And well, I kinda got 3 proposals. I didn't go ring shopping with him, but I knew it was coming. I had flown home in April to be in my best friends wedding shortly after he bought the ring and picked up on it when she talking to some of her other bridesmaids about it not knowing that I was in earshot. I didn't have a clue as to when he would though.

He said he wanted to ask my parents in July when they came down so I was kind of expecting it then, but he didn't propose until August right before we went up there. It was perfect. We were on the beach where we had spent a lot of time together (and ended up getting married there too!) at night and he was so nervous! When he finally got it out I was so giddy that I just started to hug him and didn't say yes right away.

The other two were more playful proposals. I had to get my ring re-sized and had to leave it at the jewelers while I went to PA for Christmas. I begged him to bring my ring with him to the airport when he picked me up and he kept telling me no. When I finally landed, he met me at the baggage claim and dropped to one knee in the middle of the airport and proposed again. Everyone was staring! I was so embarrassed, but now it is super funny!

The third one happened at home. We ordered a fake set for me to wear when I'm doing field work or traveling somewhere that I don't want to take my good rings. He got the package the day they came in and after I got home from work he called me into the bedroom to help him up because he hurt his knee. There he was, on one knee again. He said that since those rings were going to represent my real set, he needed to do it right. He's so silly sometimes.

Bragging on DH- we flew to CHI to visit his family for his birthday. I was mortified b/c I had just dyed my left hand bright orange with food coloring making fire safety week rice and noodle bins for the kids I was working with (mortified b/c MIL is crazy fancy and formal & I was pretty sure she didn't like me- I was right, but we got past that). So DH has his birthday and all his friends that know and like me are all over him, whispering & stuff & I'm feeling lonely & getting pretty mad. The next morning we go for a boat ride "for his birthday" and he purposed on the boat. Cousins were in town for the birthday/ engagement. It was awesome & such a surprise.
