Reviews of OSU Hospital/ Stoneridge OB/Gyn

edited July 2021 in Ohio Babies

A friend recommended Stoneridge OB/GYN, I hear they only deliver at OSU. What doctor have you used? How was your experience here?

I also would love to hear reviews of OSU L&D. I have heard great things about Riverside and Dublin, but not much about OSU. What are your experiences? Pros/Cons?

 Thank you!

  • I don't know about the OB/GYN but I had 2 c-sections at OSU. I had 2 great experiences. The first C-section was unplanned of course and the doctors there are simply amazing. Very caring, and wanted to make sure you were always feeling okay and comfortable. I have nothing bad to say about OSU University hospital. PS the food was great for hospital food ! Lol (I know hospital food is supposed to be gross but we liked it)

You can also take a tour, that helped us on our decision.

  • My daughter was born while we were still in Philly, so I've never personally been to OSU L&D. But, my mom has been a patient of Dr. Evans' at Stoneridge for 20+ years and loves her. I saw her once too and she is wonderful-- calm, very knowledgeable, willing to answer all your questions, but because she's so good she's also extremely busy, so expect to set aside 3 hrs or so for an appointment. She frequently gets called out of the office for a delivery and never really gets caught back up. That is one reason why I'm not going there now, plus they're kind of far from where we live.

My brother was delivered at OSU 15 years ago so take this with a grain of salt, but from what my mom says it's a big university hospital, with all the pros & cons that come with that. Yes, they have everything medically that you would need, but in terms of L&D itself it's pretty impersonal. She couldn't wait to get out and home. But I'm of the opinion that you & your doctor make your labor more than the hospital, so I would say if you find a great OB go with that. You can always bring whatever you need (birth ball, music, food, support person, etc.) to L&D with you, but you can't change your doctor or your prenatal care.

Full disclosure I guess: I'm a grad student at OSU thinking about TTC #2, and since I've got OSU's health insurance I'll have to deliver there.

Everything is so exciting when you're one!
  • I go to Dr. Bartholomew at Stoneridge, and have been going to her  as my gyno for approximately 10 years.  Now that I am 6 weeks pregnant, I will be using her as my OB as well.  I think she is wonderful and always try to make my appts for first thing in the morning and don't wait for too long.  I highly recommend her!  I have not had many friends deliver at OSU, as most seem to go to Riverside.  That being said, I feel like having the right doctor will be the most important thing and will be okay with delivering at OSU, given that Dr. Bartholomew will be my doctor.
  • I used to go to Stoneridge. I absolutely loved Dr. Evans. I only switched because I wanted to deliver at Dublin. I haven't heard about any negative delivery experiences at OSU, but I did hear (and this may not even be true, so take it for what it's worth) that that's where they take inmates to deliver, so you may be aware of more security around.

  • I delivered at OSU in June, tho for me it was a sad day due to pre-eclampsia and not a goodturn out i do havetosay I loved OSU L/D. The staff was so great not only to me but my family. I spent 4 days on L/D and had no bad nurses and would go back there in a heart beat. They made my sistuation as easy as possiable and i even had nurses come back to check on me that i had previous days and was working in diff area.
  • My SIL delivered at OSU last year and the doctors and nurses were very nice. They only thing that is certainly better at both Riverside and Dublin in the post-partum rooms. Hers at OSU was horrible, tiny, and dirty.
  • Thank you for your help! Ilike my Dr. at Stoneridge BUT really liked the idea of delivering at Dublin. I have only been to the Dr. twice and we are not pregnant...maybe I should look into Dr.'s who deliver at Dublin:)

     Idea?

  • I see Dr. Evans and she is wonderful. As far as OSU, I have several friends who have delivered there onver the past couple of years. They have recently updated (like 3 months ago) the decor. They have big rooms and small rooms, so if you end up in a small room, ask for a big one and they will move you as soon as there is a spot open (2 of my friends asked to be moved and were moved within 2 hours). I plan to deliver there someday. The care is awesome and the nurses are amazing. I would never consider anywhere else.

If you are looking for a doc that delivers with Riverside, I recommend Kingsdale Gynecological. I stopped going there and switched to Stoneridge because Kingsdale stopped delivering at OSU.

    Take some tours and goodluck!

  • I haven't delievered yet but I'm a patient of Dr. Evans. She has poor bedside manner. She doesn't acknowledge anyone else that may be on the exam room with you. On top of it you sit in the waiting and exam rooms forever. She never has anything positive to say.  After my 28 week check up and her continuing to be rude I had to go off on her with my mother in the room. I have been a patient in that office since 2000 and she has always has something negative to say about my weight after I lost over 150lbs basically telling me that I was overweight. She goes based on scienctfic numbers and not real life. example I'm  small frame women and I'm 5'5. the studies say that I should weight between 110-125 lbs. My pre-pregnancy weight ranged between 147-155lbs. i have gained over 50lbs per her scale, she can't explain anything as to where the weight is going expect that it's per scienctific studies. My mom left the office this morning very angry demanding that i change doctors and practices all together. the funny thing is that my father in law is a doctor and is not concerned. If i was gaining so much weight then it would show in my face and i've gained no weight in my face. i will continue to go to this practice until I deliever my son then I'm done and will not go back.
  • I am a current patient at Stoneridge and my husband and I haven't been more pleased. My regular gyno doesn't deliver babies any longer so we transferred to Stoneridge at the beginning of our pregnancy. I am a patient of Dr Hewitt and she is fantastic, I have also met with two other physicians, Dr Trout (male) and Dr Evans (female) and both were great. They answer all of my questions and there is an online medical chart thru OSU so you can review all of your test results, ask any questions etc without having to make tons of phone calls. It also keeps track of all of your appts. which is nice since you tend to have a ton when you are pregnant.
