Were you named for any special meaning/person/tradition? And do you like your name? (I want to know the origin of Marcu's name, since I love it and have never heard it before. I always assumed it was Polish or otherwise Slavic maybe?).
No special tradition or meaning behind my name. My parents wanted a K name (my maiden name also began with a K). If I was a boy I would have been Kyle, they went with Kathleen. I like Kathleen, but often wished they'd used Kate or Katie as a nn instead of Kathy. Oh well. I often tried to use Kathleen instead of Kathy in college/law school/work but it never stuck.
Marcu (pronounced like Mar-coo for those who are wondering) is a family name. I was named after my grandma's youngest sister. My great-grandma had 10 children (1 boy and 9 girls). The boy was the oldest and when the last baby was born he asked if he could name her. He chose Marcu because it was the name of the girl he had a crush on in high school.
My parents couldn't agree on a name and when I was born, my dad suggested Marcu after my great-aunt.
Apparently it's Scandinavian in origin. There is Finnish version spelled Markku and it's a male version (Hoobastank's drummer is Markku). I've also seen my spelling as a last name, but never run across it as a first name until recently. I actually found a Marcu Jones (my maiden name) on FB as well as a Marcu Alexander (who's a dude). Crazy!
Sorry for the crazy long answer!

My mom wanted to name me Heather. Loved it, picked it when she was little. My aunt (her SIL, who wasn't yet pregnant) claimed she also always wanted to use the name. Yielding to intense family pressure (parents were teen parents), she picked a different girls name. No reason. On the way to the hospital, she decided to change it to my name because it seemed more Spring.
11 months after I was born, my aunt delivered my female cousin. And named her something totally different.
I was supposed to be Nicole at first but it was changed to Daria right after I was born. My parents were convinced that I was a boy since my father had three sons before so I was going to be Dario. Well my father wanted Dario really bad and my brother said well just change the O to an A and call her Daria. So now I am Daria Nicole.
PS it is not pronounced like the cartoon Daria it is not DAR REA and is DARE REA

I'm Carin and my dad chose that spelling over the traditional Karen. My maiden name also starts with C, so that was part of it. I love it. Growing up, having an unusually spelled name was rare. Now it's the norm.
I was going to be Amy, but Jimmy Carter was president and his daughter Amy evidently was awkward looking, so my mom didn't want to use the name.
After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!
I am named after the Frank Sinatra song, "Emily". My mom loves her some Old Blue Eyes. It was considered an old lady name at the time and very rare in babies so she finds it funny that it is so popular now. She also really like Sydney, but my Dad hated it.

My older sister named me because my parents couldn't agree. It's totally 70s and I know so many others. I always wanted to change my name, but I know it could be worse. So while I don't dislike it, I don't love it.
Oh and I also have the shortened version so I've never had a nickname and always wanted one.

My name is Micki. My mother had a sister named Michelle who went by Micky, she died at age 5 from a brain tumor (my mom was 18). My dad's mom was named Mildred, she went by Mickey. I'm not sure how they picked the spelling, my name is always spelled wrong and I frequently get asked if its my "real" name.

I was supposed to be named Michelle, but when my mother went into labor there was 3 other Michelles in the nursery. She named me Kristine instead, turned out Christine and all the variants of the name is far more popular then Michelle, but oh well- she tried!
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

My names are family names. Elizabeth is paternal grandmother's first name and my middle name Streb is maternal grandmother's maiden name. Had they switched it and taken paternal maiden and maternal middle names, my name would have been Ruth Fleckenstein H______. lovely

My mom named me Lindsay after a character on Young and the Restless. The boy named they had picked out was Eric but I'm not sure where they got that name.
My mother's name is Nora. She disliked it growing up, and the her little sister was born and named Katie. She loved that name so much she wanted to name her daughter after her sister someday. Then she had me, and I am Katie.
I love my name! It is just Katie, not Catherine or Cathy or the short of anything. Just Katie. My aunt has since passed, and I am proud to be named after such a wonderful woman.

My mom had two names picked. A boy name and a girl name. But was convinced she was having a boy so gave up her girl name when a cousin named her newborn the name she picked (Andrea). Then she had a girl and couldn't name me Luis. So she picked Sonya. But my great grandmother was the first visitor and spelled it So?a with the Spanish letter ? instead of a ny or ni. The spelling stuck, much to my constant battling with state and federal agency dismay. And I named DD Andrea.

I love that you used the name your mom wasn't able to use!
Nothing really special about my name. They just liked Alissa..and had to spell it differently then the "normal" way.. but my parents were hippys and always went against norm. My name is super Jewish either but they thought it was unique at the time..and it was during the early 80's..
If I was going to be a boy I would have been Aaron (my brothers name) they loved that name! I acutally hated my name for the longest time..still don't love it but Alissa has grown on me as I have gotten older.

Well shhh but it's a secret that Andrea's name was actually DH's pick because it was his favorite aunt's name and he was really really close with her. But my Mom thinks its for her, my Dad thinks it's for his Mom (my paternal grandmother's middle name) and all DH's family thinks it's for DH's aunt. We got a name that actually makes everyone happy.

Carly came from Carly Simon.....my mom loved her Michelle was chosen in honor of my great-grandmother, who was Miriam (so, they wanted to use an "M" name.....)
I am one of the younger of 17 grandchildren on my dad's side. My dad's mom passed away when he was 16 and they were close. He wanted to honor her by giving me the same name - Katherine, but one of my cousins already had that name, so I'm Kathleen. My middle name (Marie) is my mom's first and my grandmother's middle name.
Apparently at a very young age - like 3 - I started becoming adamant that my name was Kathleen, not Kathy and not Katie (my cousin's nickname). Now I wouldn't mind being a Kate, but in deference to my 3-year-old self, I keep it Kathleen.
Beth was for my father's aunt Becky. Um, yeah, nobody told my mother that her real name was Rebecca (and, I still don't understand how my mother couldn't figure that out, especially since her hebrew name was Rivka, which is Rebecca!). So, I should have/could have been Lisa Rebecca, but, instead, I'm Lisa Beth, with about 7 million other people.
My hebrew name is Leah Rivka (pronounced Lay-ah), which I think is really pretty.
My first name is my mother's name, Victoria. My middle name was the name both my parents wanted to call me by, Kelly. Each child in my family has a first name that is a family name and our middle names hold no special meaning other than that is what we are actually called by.
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
My Dad and his first wife always wanted a boy and a girl named Michael and Michelle. She was never able to have children, and they divorced after 9 years of marriage.
When my Dad married my Mom, he still wanted children named Michael and Michelle, but she wasn't having it. He wore her down, and those became our middle names.
She was going to name me Dara...but when anyone would ask what she was naming the baby, and she would tell them Dara, they'd always say "what?"...and then she would have to spell it. She decided that she didn't want me to have to go through that my whole life...so she was home watching a soap opera one day, and there was a character named Dana. She like it, and here I am, Dana Michelle.
I was 3 1/2 when my brother was born, and they let me name him. I wanted a baby brother named Jon. I told my Mom that if it was a girl, we'd call it "Stupid". Thankfully, it was a boy, and they named him Jonathan Michael.
my brothers were all named after famous people Perry (Perry Como), Dean (Dean Martin), and Guy (Guy Lombardi). Of course my dad and his first wife could come up with a middle with son number 1 so they did Arthur (my dad's name) and with the next two my dad said it wasn't fair to give one his name and not the others. I say it was PURE laziness!
My sister Holly was named after my dad's favorite tree, his st bernard (LOL), and after his florist shop Holly Wick. Christie was just a name my mom like but my kicked herself a while after because she learned the model has the same exact first & middle name Christie Lee Brinkley. To add to the our last name starts with Br as well!
