Pregnant after 35

exhausted this week

I'm 36 this is my first pregnancy and I've felt great so far other than being hungry and sleepy but this week I'm so exhausted I can barely make it til the end of the work day without wanting to fall asleep. Is anyone else really tired in the first trimester? Does it get better in the second trimester? I dread some of my longer work days since the hourse I work vary. Maybe its age related and because their twins? thanks for any input :)

  • I'm not having twins, but I was extremely exhausted the first trimester.  I took a nap every single day and could still sleep 10 or more hours at night.  It started to get better about a week before beginning my 2nd tri.

Congratulations on your BFP!  Sleep whenever you can!

  • Right there with ya! I'm almost 11 weeks along...and although not twins...still the exhaustion. I do have to say it's gotten better since the early weeks. But I make myself stop mid-day and just sit and do nothing (drink water) for like 10 minutes. Seems to help. Tonight I was putting away laundry and felt like I couldn't finish from pure exhaustion. Hang in there. Betcha it gets better. But yes...first tri = "I NEED A NAP"!!!!

  • If it makes you feel any better, I had the same feeling last week, which was my 9th week and only that week! I feel more normal this week, thank goodness! I need my exercise or I'll be the size of a house before this is over!

  • It is a 1st tri thing. It goes away during the 2nd,but comes back to you in the 3rd. My suggestion? get as much done in that 2nd tri as you can!!!!
  • Right there with you...1st trimester is the worst.  And having to chase a toddler around at the same time is a challenge as well.  Gets better on all fronts in teh 2nd trimester.

  • I hate to sound like the negative Nancy.. I had serious problems with fatigue in my 1st trimester and they never went away. It's rare but it happens for some of us.

I sometimes wonder if it wasn't punishment for not having morning sickness LOL

Hope you start to feel better soon!

  • Thanks to you all for the input, I knew I wasn't alone in the fatigue dept but keeping my hopes up that 2nd tri is easier so I can keep up with work and house work more easily. fingers crossed! I think I'd rather have the fatigue than m/s so maybe I better stop complaining lol

  • Like others are saying, I pretty much slept through my entire first trimester. It got much better in the second but not right away.

  • 1st tri - dear lord, I almost had to quit my job so I could nap!

2nd tri - better but still falling FAST asleep 2 hours earlier at night

3rd tri - no change - still tired but waking up more during the night for random reasons but certainly NOT exhausted like I was in my 1st tri.

  • Singleton, here .. during the 1st Tri I would nap at my desk, especially after lunch!  My boss/coworkers were really understanding & didn't disturb me.

Once I reached 13 wks things were gravy .. no longer needed noontime naps, but insomnia set in around 16 wks.

  • I am exhausted every single day.  I take a nap as often as possible and still have no trouble sleeping.  I'm 38, so I understand the age, and not sure if I'm having one or more (did IVF)...but I just want to sleep ALL.THE.TIME.
