Some of the responses on here are ridiculous and juvenile...
"My husband doesn't even do that".
"If they do that to me I'm never going back".
Come on now ladies. How about trying to understand why it is done rather than just freaking out. If a doctor does something you don't understand or your husband doesn't do, it doesn't mean they are quacks. Surely you could ask them the purpose of the exam.
Also, does your H give you pelvic exams? I'm pretty sure a lot of what my doctors do is out of the realm of stuff my husband does.
To answer the actual question, yes, I've had it done twice. Both times were because they were trying to feel a very large cyst that I had. It couldn't be felt through stomach and vaginal palpitation. Only rectal. My uterus was very far back and had to be pushed from that angle for the to feel it.
Born at 31w3d due to severe IUGR & Placental Insufficiency--2lbs 3ounces
We'll miss you sweet Debbie Girl (4.21.12) and sweet Cindy Girl (8.9.12)

Re: Ummm, I think I'm being violated.
They can feel the ovaries and uterus when they do a rectal exam.
I dont think a lot of doctors do it, but it is recommended for a full exam.
