The nighttime diaper conundrum

It seems like there is a post about this every couple of months, and now it's my turn.

I cannot find a solution for keeping Tyler dry at night.  I will say that 5 nights out of 7, his diaper leaks and he wakes up with wet pajamas and sheets.  It's got to be so uncomfortable.

I am going to try Huggies overnights again, in a size up from what he usually wears, but the last time I tried them on him (about a year ago), they did not work well for us at all.  They were great when Justin was his age so I'm hoping now that he's a little bigger and not nursing in the middle of the night, that will be the end of it.

But what are you all using at night that's keeping your LO from waking up wet?  Would it be worth trying CDs at night only?  I don't know what else to do if the Huggies won't work.  He is currently double diapered at night but it is pointless.

Re: The nighttime diaper conundrum

  • We are a Huggies Overnight (1 size up) household. They are the only dipe that will keep J dry, overnight. Good luck!

  • Loading the player...
  • At Toys R Us, they have inserts that go inside regular diapers. I can't remember the name off the top of my head, but it's about $4 for a pack of 30. Worked great for us.
  • We use disposables at night because I stuff the CD SO much to keep him dry that it's uncomfortable.. We use Pampers overnight.
You know the only thing that truly worked?? Limiting liquids after 6 ( he goes to bed at 8) and I started giving 6oz instead of 8 of milk before bed. Oh and I never let DH put the nighttime diaper on. Seriously, there was a pattern. I don't know wth he does, but it leaks every.time. He puts it on.

Wish I could think of something other than limiting liquids before bed and that but I can't!!! Hopefully this time it works better for you guys!

  • We really like the Bum Genius pockets for night time :)  You could just buy 3 or 4 and wash just twice a week.  They have worked great for us!!

  • DD had a terrible time with this.  I couldn't convince DH to go with cloth diapers, and we ended up with pamper's O/N one size up with a depends or super absorbancy pad on the inside.  I also turn the top edges in, I noticed it would get so soaked in the front and back it was wicking directly to her clothes.  She is dry now 99% of the time in the morning.
  • We use Pampers Baby Dry

What size does Brooke wear?  I know she and Tyler are similar in size.

  • She is between a 4 and 5 in regular diapers (4's in Target).  I got 5's in the Pamper's O/N and they are plenty big on her for the moment.
  • Replying so I can check back later.

DS has been soaking his clothes and bed sheets every. single. night.

DS #1 born January 2010. DS #2 due June 2014.

perfect, Tyler wears a size 4 Target diaper too.  I will try a 5 and see if I can fix it.

When you say you put a Depends in there, is it a pad? or something else?

  • I used Select Kids Baby Diaper Booster from Toys R Us.  It is basically a pad that you stick in the diaper.  C didn't seem to mind it, and as long as you had it place right (not sticking out of the top of the diaper) it worked great.  We had lots of problems with leaking, through all the overnight products!  https://tinyurl.com/5rdu3oc  You can buy a smaller pack of 30 (1 month supply) for about $4.

Thanks for the link.  I actually bought some of the "Diaper Doublers" when Justin was younger and they didn't work for him, but maybe I didn't do it right.  I will try that if the ON diapers fail me (which I actually fully expect).

  • I've used the depends pads, but they are kind of bulky.  I like using the ultra thin super absorbancy pads instead.  Her diaper is usually really full in the morning, but this seems to stop most leaks, along with folding the tops to the inside a little bit.  GL!
