Hawaii Babies

Um, how fast does baby hair grow back?

I gave LO his first haircut and let's just say, there's a reason why I knew I'd never make it in the cosmetology world.

So I tried to do it now because (1) he's due for one--his hair is all in his face and ears and it's a good 3 inches in the back down his shoulders and (2) we'd have some time before his 1st bday for it to grow back, but now I'm worried. I really hope it will grow back by then!

  • I'm sure, just like adults, that every baby is different.  But I will say that Henry's hair grows really fast!  He grows about a half inch or maybe even a little more every month.

    Good luck!

  • hehe.  MH has been saying I should give LO a trim, but I'm too scared to - it might end up looking worse than it does now!  LO has a HUGE bald spot in back, and thin patches everywhere else - except for his sideburns, since those don't get rubbed.  so he has thick(er), long sideburn tufts that almost cover his ears, and thin bald spots everywhere else!  it's pretty funny looking Smile

  • i have no idea b/c we still haven't given her a hair cut yet! her bangs are all in her face all the time but they are almost long enough to sweep to the side and tuck behind her ears now so i don't want to cut it :)

i hope his hair grows back in time for his bday! if not i'm sure you could take him in to have it "fixed" at a hair place :)

  • This is why I no longer cut A's hair...I hate the way it looks.....so he looks like a homeless child most days with this long hair:-)

  • Jack doesn't have very thick hair, but it was oddly long in places so I took him in a week before his first bday.  Now 2mo later it has filled in more, but he won't need another trim for a while, especially now since it was cut and will now grow more evenly.

His hair definitely isn't growing as fast as mine or MH's because it's not back over his ears.  But I think it really depends on the kid!

kiddo haircut place?  best $12 I spent :)  Maybe if it doesn't start to even out or look like you want it to you could take him in right before his bday to have them even things up?

Ahhh yes...the one I found in our area charged $17 and I originally thinking...I'm not gonna pay $20+ (incl tip) for you to snip a few thin hairs from a baby! Of course, I only spend $15 (incl tip) on my own haircuts (and my hair is waist-length...yeah, I'm really cheap about my hair =P) so that's probably why...

But maybe I should've anyway. Yeah, I'm gonna wait until it's closer to his bday party and then take him in to get things fixed if need be...

when i was younger, i used to grow my hair out to my waist, and only get it cut like, once every 2 years, heh.  i'm super cheap about my hair too, and thus have ended up with some really bad cuts.  so bad i had MH fix a haircut once, before i would leave the house again!  hehe

but i must say, i have had one cut that was about $100 after tax and tip - and while $$$ does not always equal a good cut - this one i just LOVED.  i really debated whether i wanted to go back every month to keep the shape (i was too afraid to ask what she charges for trims, but i hope it wasn't quite as much!!), but thankfully, that's when we got engaged and i knew i wanted to grow my hair out for the wedding anyway.  Stick out tongue

i figure with super straight, longer hair, it's not so hard to just cut straight across, right?  but if i ever want a short, stylish cut, i just may have to go back to her!  ...it's kind of like glasses.  i don't mind spending money on glasses if i'm going to be wearing them every day - it's like an accessory!  but mostly, i just don't care enough about my hair to make it look good Stick out tongue

  • yeah, I'm usually pretty cheap with my hair, I would just grow it until I could donate and then chop it and do it all over again.  My childhood friend is a really good stylist so I feel like I have to go to her (luckily she is good!) but she is PRICEY for my area but I still don't have her go too crazy with something that needs upkeep so I can get away with only going about twice a year.  I forced MH to go there before our wedding because he has had some pretty horrible cheap-y haircuts and now he is hooked and will only go there and tells his friends that they really shouldn't settle for a cut done entirely with clippers.  Kind of funny.

Funny, the extra $5 for the kids cut in your area probably would have made me think twice too!  And I spend that much pretty much every day for coffee, no rhyme or reason to what deem ok to spend money on!  Honestly, the kid place is only worth it because they are good dealing with kids and have diversions set up like special car seats and TV.  I doubt the stylist are any better than your average no-name beauty school grad...
