Shower Thank-You (NBR)

My mom and I attended the bridal shower of my cousins future wife a few weeks ago.  As we walked in we were handed a sealed envelope and asked to address it.  We complied.  I assumed it was a save the date.  Much to my surprise (and horror) I received that envelope in the mail today.  Inside?  A thank-you note.  What did it say you ask?  "Thank you for the gift.  Love, S and P".  WHAT?!  That is the tackiest thing I have ever been witness to.

Also...during the shower one of her bridesmaids was there writing down everything she received.  Why do that if you sent out such impersonal (and pathetic, rude, and disgusting) thank you notes?  I'm confused.

Re: Shower Thank-You (NBR)

  • Ohhh my gosh that is SUPER rude!! Holy cow!!

When i was reading the first part, about the envelopes/addresses, I was thinking that it wasn't that bad. Usually something like that at a shower is done by the person hosting the shower, without the guest of honor knowing about it until it happens. Also, if any invitations were handed out (like at a place of work or church), they could be verifying correct addresses. (Still not preferable, but it doesn't upset me when it happens).

But then, when I saw what the thank you note said .... I'm horrified too! Seriously? Even if she lost the list, she should be able to remember (or say "It was great to see you" or "I can't wait to be officially part of the family" or "thank you for making the trip to my shower so close to your due date, it was greatly appreciated and I enjoyed your company"). SOMETHING!! I wasn't even there and I can think of a million things she could have said to you. Ahhh!!

I think thank you cards are becoming a lost art. Some of my grandmother's cousins actually wrote me a thank you card FOR SENDING THEM A THANK YOU CARD with a picture of my LO because they don't usually get them from my generation. CRAZY!

I am typically okay with this too.  But the fact that there was something IN the envelope already and it was SEALED through me off..which is why I assumed it was a save the date or something else.  Nope...a pre-written, completely generic thank you note.  Yikes!

  • This is crazy. It totally defeats the purpose of sending a thank you card.
