I had my first endocrinologist appointment today (I have high thyroid antibodies, was hypo, and now hyperthyroid). The appt went really well, and I REALLY liked my doc. She was wonderful and spent an entire hour going over my history, listening to my concerns, and answering my questions. We worked out a plan for how we'll deal with my thyroid and now I'm waiting on my blood work results. Best case, my thyroid is back to normal levels, I stay at my current Synthroid levels, and we start ttc as soon as AF shows. Worst case, the blood levels show high thyroid levels (low TSH), and we do a scan to find out why. Depending on what it shows, I may have to chose between removing the thyroid (surgery), radioactively treating it (wait another YEAR to ttc), or taking anti-thyroid meds, which may have own issues w/ pregnancy.
I feel confident in her assessments, and I am hopeful that we will get solve whatever issue there is. She kept telling me, no matter what we find, we can make this work. She also told me not to freak out on her - she must have seen my reaction to her saying we may have to wait a year! She has a ton of patients my age who are pregnant or on a ttc journey, so she totally gets where I'm coming from. She also said she'd monitor me really closely once I get pregnant, which is reassuring. It's scary to think we'd have to wait a whole nother year. FX the bloodwork comes back okay!!!
