Fiona has been showing interest in sitting on her potty for a couple of months now. Since I know after breakfast she'll normally go pee or poop, I figured I'd steer her toward sitting on the potty. A couple of weeks ago, she was obviously ready to poop. I led her toward the potty, but when I tried to get her to sit down..she freaked and ended up pooping on the floor. I usually let her go diaper free in the morning to air out. Now, since this incident, she's been asking for "Diap On" "Diap On" until I put one on her. She'll even go get one, if I don't respond fast enough.
I hope I haven't traumatized the child. I guess since she's showed interest in potty, I would try to introduce the idea. But, I guess the thought of actually pooping in one freaked her out.
She's 20 months...maybe too early.
Re: Asking for Diaper
I have been doing the same with Sienna. Diaper free- especially in the morning after sleeping in pee all night. She doesn't have a problem sitting on it, staying on it though is another issue. A few times she was sitting & as soon as she had to pee she bolted & did it on the floor. When I notice the signs that she's gonna go, I quickly put her on it. Alot of hit & miss.
I attempted to put her in the plastic training pants & she freaked out. She tries to pull them off & makes a big fuss. I think it's the sound. So I just got cloth training underwear & she good with those. They are easy to yank off when I see the sign.
Try putting the potty in front of the tv & have her sit on it to watch a favorite show.
