Pharmacy Ladies: Question about Amoxicillin

Last time Fin had Amoxicillin, we got it from Kroger. It was bright pink and he LOVED it. Granted, that was 6 months ago.

Tonight, we got it at the Group Health Associates pharmacy. It is white, and he HATES it! Was screaming and spitting it out as I squirted it into his mouth.

Would it somehow be different from the different pharmacies? Is there a plausible reason why he liked the other better, or is it probably just his age difference? If you think it's different, think the doctor would call me in another Rx to get at Kroger?

Are you sure it's not Augmentin, instead of Amoxicillin?

We've had both. Amox is pink, and enjoyed by all. Augmentin is white and yucky. Tyler LOVES the pink stuff and sucks it down like it's his job.

It definitely says Amoxicillin - on the bottle it says "dye-free".

It wasn't very cold when I gave it to him, and maybe I didn't shake it well enough? Maybe super cold and very well shaken, it will be better in the morning?

I hope so, because I definitely don't want to fight him for 10 more days! Last time, he would suck it out of the syringe before I even pushed on the plunger

Huh, I didn't even know there was a dye-free version. hopefully one of the pharms will respond, I wouldn't even know what to suggest. Why mess with a good thing?

It smells a little bit like bubblegum I guess - although I thought it smelled more last time. I didn't taste it either time because I'm allergic...

Honestly-- if you are doubting anything, I would take it back to the pharmacy. For something like amoxicillan that you *know* what it should look/smell like and it doesnt makes me think something might be up. It very well could be nothing and might just be some new mix but if nothing else you could ask them to maybe add more flavoring to it or something? I dont mess around with prescription drugs, if I have any doubts or questions I stop giving it until I can talk to a dr. or pharm.

Or you could even call and ask to speak to the pharmacist over the phone, I do that all the time when I have med questions. GL! Hopefully its nothing!

The label says:

200mL Amoxicillin SUS 250/5ML

WEST-WARD

We went in and they added some Grape flavoring to it, so hopefully that will help - I am just not sure why it was so different in the first place. Weird.

weird. They usually have pictures of the products in my drug reference that we use. West-ward does not but it does list pink, fruit as an "ingredient". Glad they could add something.

It is different because it is a different manufacturer that makes a dye-free product. The pink kind has dye in it and is typically bubble gum flavored. So this one has a different (and obviously more unpleasant) fruit flavor. Hopefully the new flavoring they added works out.
