High-Risk Pregnancy

New to High Risk Board & On Bedrest..(sorry long)

Hi all, my name is Kendra and I am having baby #2 a DS, due 7/28/11. I already have a 5 year old DD name Shelby, who is the apple of my eye (delivered at 39 weeks)

I was placed on strict bed rest on Friday, after complaining to my ob about pelvic pressure and having an ultra sound that confirmed my cervix had shortened it measure a 23?per my ob they like your cervix to between 30 & 40. Stayed in L&D over the weekend and my cervix actually got worse...it is now a 21. My FFN test was negative, so they allowed me to go home on Monday.  Along with the bed rest, I am also on Indocin every 6 hours & Progesterone Gel every 12 hours. I have to have my cervix checked every week.  I have few questions for you experience High Risk Bumpies: 1. Is this the same treatment plan that others moms in the same situation are following? 2. What do you do to past the time?this is my first day home and I am going stir crazy!

Re: New to High Risk Board & On Bedrest..(sorry long)

  • With my 2nd, I was on bedrest starting at the exact same time as you.   My cervix was a 1.9 (19) .  The only treatment I received was bedrest....no progesterone.  And DD made it to 35w5d.  :)  Things I did to pass the time:

    rented TV series of Netflix

    books/magazines

    crosswords

    scrapbooking (never had before....started then)

    alot of online shopping ;)

    started baby book

    addressed announcement envelopes

    Good luck!!

  • At my 23 week anatomy scan I was found to have a cervix measuring ~23, but was told we were just going to keep an eye on it (I was symptom free).  A week later it was found to be 19 and funneling open (but not dilated, yet).  I spend 3 days in L & D stopping contractions I wasn't aware of!  That was 24 weeks and 1 day.  I've been on Procardia every 6 hours since then, and no progesterone gel (my OB/MFM debated it - and then didn't write me a script and said I'd be fine, lol).  I'm on modified bedrest, so I'm allowed little errands/trips, things like that, just not anything strenuous.  I've found a lot of new TV shows I like, I surf the web on my laptop, read books, sew some things here and there... you find things you like to do, and have the time to do them for once (and probably the last time you'll have for a while!)

I go off my Procardia and increase my activity in 2 weeks, and I'm not expecting to make it much longer, but being 34 weeks tomorrow really gives me hope.. we've already made it 10 weeks! (Ps -this is my first pregnancy).

  • I'm surprised they kept you in L&D over the entire weekend for 2.3cm. Was there any funneling? My MFM says that he does not even get concerned unless it is less than 2.0, but I think it is good that your doctor is being proactive.

I am on the progesterone shots, rather than the gel. I also have two cerclages and I am on bed rest for the remainder of the pregnancy. My plan is more preventative than anything because I have had a previous loss with a cerclage and P17 shots.

I think finding some new crafts to get into helps a lot. I know it sounds silly, but DH bought me a Nintendo DSI, and I'm shocked how much it can help pass the time! lol

I hope everything goes great for the remainder of your pregnancy!
