I just got a call from the college I used to work for about a job interview for a great position. I am 20 weeks pregnant and am not really obviously showing especially in work clothes. Would you tell them you were pregnant in the interview or wait until you got an official offer?
Re: 5 months pregnant and job interview
I agree with this. YOu won't be eligible for FMLA however you never know if the companies policy is more generous or not. I would suggest waiting until you get the offer, tell them and also make sure you get what their policy is before you accept or not. A friend of mine was interviewing, got a job offer and the same day she got the offer she found out she was pregnant. She didn't feel right not telling them about it so she told them. They reviewed their policies with her and she found out that because she wouldn't be eligible for FMLA then she also wouldn't be eligible for any paid leave at all. For her this wasn't worth it so she decided not to accept the position.
This is what I would do. A friend of mine got a new job at 29 weeks and she negotiated 6 weeks of unpaid maternity leave and the security of having her job when she returned.
Wait until you get an offer.
Most colleges have a very family-friendly atmosphere, so they will most likely be understanding and helpful as long as you communicate a dedication to the position and a carefully considered plan for maternity leave, which I'm sure you will. Good luck!
