Who has 3+ kids??

I'm having a hard time thinking of anyone here with 3 or more kids besides Amy... Is there anyone else??

I'm wondering how often you are able to get out of the house with all your kids?   Right now Holden and I have activities that we go to almost every day, and I realize that I wont be leaving the house much for the first few months after the Weebles are born (RSV season/2 newborns/etc..).  But after they're a few months old do you think I will be able to resume some normal activities, not every day but at least a few times a week?  Or is it going to be tougher than I am imagining...  Sorry for the ramble, I guess I am just getting myself freaked out by all the posts on the multiples board by people saying that their twins are 6-7-8 months old and they still haven't left the house alone with them!   I couldn't imagine!

Re: Who has 3+ kids??

  • We have 3 kids. With Luke being 13, he does help load the little ones into the car and whatnot.

Because Luke has scheduled activities (School, Band, Soccer) we are forced to get out and be places. More often late then on time, but we are there!

In Ella's preschool class there is a mom that has 2 year old triplets and a 10 month old. She is there every week without fail - so it is possible! :)

  • I'll have 3 kids in a few months. I can tell you that twins are definitely harder to take out than 1, but it is totally doable. Holden will be old enough to hold onto the stroller and follow directions which will make a big difference. I'm planning to get out a lot this summer after baby #3 is born just because I want to take full advantage of being on maternity leave.

Just like with 1 baby, it will totally depend on their temperment, schedule etc. My girls were super chill babies so I took them to restaurants, birthday parties, to our cabin at 3 weeks old, to Montana at 2 months old etc and they just slept most of the time. It also helped they were born in May instead of the fall, but I bet you'll do just fine!

  • I have a friend who was in a situation similar to yours.  She had one boy and then two years later had twin boys.  They just celebrated their first birthday.  It isn't always pretty, but here is the link to her blog:  https://sunnyinseattle-cadh.blogspot.com/

  • I don't have three obviously.... but are you going to start Holden in preschool next fall?  You might want to, so that he has opportunities to get out of the house and you get a little down time.

I carted Cooper to all of Ben's activities that first 6-7 months (after the first few where I was scared he was going to get Swine Flu)... but I could just strap him on me and go since I only had one....  I hope you can still get out for your own sanity!

I am planning on starting Holden in preschool, but Im not sure if it will be this fall, or next when he is 3.  I have to see what the requirements are for the school I want, which is only a block away.

  • What the heck?  I'm known as the girl that has a ton of kids??

My answer, since you specifically didn't ask for it, YES!   And we've hung out together plenty of times, were you not paying attention?  :)

It's not as much as before, but we definitely get out.  There are people who feel like they can't do it.  But I can't not do it.  We only had one activity a week and I sometimes have a friend take her as she takes her girls, too.  I do get out less to accomodate their schedules.  In my mind, twins are much easier to get out with since you have two hands to carry them/ their car seats and that a shopping cart can hold 2 carriers.  Not so much with 3.

First of all I think you have the most kids of anyone on the board (who posts regularly) so yes, Amy, You are the girl with a ton of kids =)  and Second, I know YOU have gotten out a lot with all your kids but I was kind of thinking of you as an anomaly =P  I was trying to figure out if other people also were able to do it, too.

  • Let's just say my youngest is 7 months old and I just got home 30 minutes ago from California. I did it solo with just the 3 kids. We ate at restaurants, took potty breaks, everything. Getting out is hard at first but you just have to plan on leaving 30 minutes before you need to leave in the beginning. Once your oldest is closer to 5 they are a HUGE help.
    Mama to Z - 5.5 years, G - 3.5 years, & M - 1.5 years.
  • My sister has 4 kids under 5yrs and they get out of the house DAILY.  She takes them everywhere with her, ever since they were all babies.  Grocery shopping, to the mall, to doctors appts, etc.  EVERYWHERE.  It's all in the mind set and preparation.  She prepares the night before for whatever her plans are for the following day... Clothes, diapers, snacks, etc.

She doesn't have any multiples though, they are all about 18-20m apart.  Not sure if that would make it easier or harder ;)  lol
