We had DS's 3 year appt. today and his 2nd set of tubes are out now. The pedi had to scoop ear wax out of his right ear because it was actually clogging the canal and DS is starting to retain fluid in that ear again. This isn't the first time we've had ear wax removal at the pedi's. So, we are going to get in to see the ENT a bit earlier than regularly scheduled. I was just curious if anyone else has encountered this. The pedi did say we have to be careful to make sure it doesn't harden and become painful. I should have asked if I could get one of those lights for home so that I can check his ears periodically. LOL
Re: Anyone's LO have an abnormal amount of ear wax?
J also seems to be a waxy kid. A couple times, the pedi has commented about a build up of wax (one of them almost in a judgy way, or maybe I'm just hyper-sensitive), but none of them have ever done anything to remove it, nor have they given us any instruction to do so. We get what we can with a wash cloth, every night, but I've always heard that's all you should do. I guess I'll ask, explicitly, next visit.
Yeah, I never do more than wipe out his ear with a washcloth and will occasionally pick out the wax that I see forming on the rim of his ear. I have never heard of it actually clogging a canal though, so I was just curious. If I find out a safe and easy remedy from the ENT for home, I'll share.
Tyler had a double ear infection last week despite having tubes, both of which are still in place. One ear was fine and the tube was doing its job, because it was draining out his ear. The other was so clogged with wax that the fluid had no place to go. He always seems to have trouble with excess wax, even when he is feeling well.
I will be interested to hear what the ENT has to say about it.
