Full body scan at SeaTac

We're traveling out of SeaTac at the end of the month and I'm not comfortable with the full-body scanners while pregnant. The last time I traveled (November) there was only one at the B Gate.

Anyone know if there are more now? I want to try and avoid a gate that has one.

Re: Full body scan at SeaTac

  • I've seen them at every gate now (at least 1) but have never seen anyone in one, honestly.  Also if you go through the MVP line you won't have one at all.

    Good luck!

  • I just went through the airport in March. Every gate had one, even the MVP line. I am not sure if you can avoid it. Good luck!

  • Even if the line has it you can still opt for the pat-down instead.  Not a desirable option, but it is an alternative.

I just got back from a trip, and they do have them at every gate. That being said, they don't allow mothers with small children to go through them. I am sure they won't let a pregnant woman go through them either. I just went through the standard metal detector, no pat down this time. Last time, I got the full pat down! HTH!

  • It's luck of the draw at the airport. Every gate has them, but half the time, they are not in use. Every screening checkpoint has both for each line. It just depends if the scanner is occupied if you go thru the regular one. Moms with kids/babies go Thru the regular one since you can't hold your arms up if you have a kid you are carring. They don't care if you are PG, you will still have the possibility of going thru the scanner. You can opt out, you just say so if you are ushered to go thru it. The thing is is you opt out, you automatically get the pat down. I would wait until the last minute to see which one you go thru. If they usher you to the regular one, yay, no pat down needed. If they usher you to the scanner, THEN opt out that way you have a chance of not getting felt up. Lol

  • I'm aware of the pat-down rules and while not desirable, I'll take it to a full-body scan.

Boo. I was hoping there was a gate without, but hopefully I can just do a regular machine instead.

  • You don't always get the pat-down if you opt out. When we flew recently they pointed me towards the scanner and I said "I'm pregnant, I don't want to go through there" and they just sent me through the traditional metal detector instead. Good luck!
