Taking LO to baseball game ?

When did you take your LO to a baseball game?

I'm thinking of purchasing tickets for DH's Birthday that is in May and I really wanted to make this a family event. DD is 18 months old and she doesn't normally like to sit for very long. But it's not like I have to sit the entire time. Also for those who have taken their LO to the game, do I have to purchase them a ticket too? Most likely she would not sit in her own seat.

Thoughts?

  • I am pretty sure that every person, regardless of age, requires a ticket. There used to be reduced rates for kids, but I don't know if they still do that.

  • I would highly recommend starting with a minor league game.  They are much more family oriented, tickets and concessions are cheaper, and they have a lot of general seating so you can move about.  I have been to Bowie and Frederick and both are nice.

Any game I have gone to, I had to buy a ticket whether or not they sat in the seat.

  • I really want to say that the stadium has a playground in there but I haven't been in a while so I'm not 100% sure.

We're thinking about taking DD this season also.  I don't think she'll sit through it but I'm not a huge fan so I don't mind wandering.

  • At Camden Yards, kids under age 2 are free.  My son is 15 months and has been to several baseball games.  He went to a few Orioles games last year and a few Ironbirds games.  We also took him to Orioles Opening Day this year.  I enjoy just being at the ballpark so it has never bothered me that I have missed alot of the game to walk around with my son.

A playground at Oriole park?  I'll have to look into this.

I know that last year there was a bouncy-bounce or jump-jump or whatever you call it.  It was attended and they only let so many kids in at once.  I don't recall if DD went in or not, she was big enough too and it seemed like the attendant tried to group kids the same age to go in at the same time?

I didn't find a playground- but we only stayed on one side of the stadium.

  • There is definitely a kids area, I happened to walk through it on Opening Day. It is outside Section 1 on the 1st base side of the stadium. Looks like they had a playground, picnic tables, and other fun stuff.

  • We took Aiden to several games last summer, when he was over 2.  We got him his own ticket (he wanted a "big boy" seat).  The first time we went was with some of his friends, and that was really good, because the kids entertained one another.  He did great, and he loves going and keeps asking when to go back!

  • We plan on taking M.  We almost went on Opening Day, but I didn't want to take M to his first baseball game w/o my dh.  You can also get a free baseball tkt for your birthday too ;)  (There is info. on their website if you are interested...)

  • Camden Yards also has a great kids club program where kids get a special gift at the beginning of the season, reduced food price (I think) and other fun benefits- not sure if that was mentioned in the posts above (did not read all of them).  Our friends started taking their children to the O's games when they were 6 months old and said they had no problems.

  • i highly recommend minor league games--i know that frederick keys has a whole "game area" (i.e. carnival type games) and a merry go round and moonbounce. i'm not sure what the age limit is for tix but it's all very inexpensvie
  • DS went to his first Orioles & Ironbirds games at about 6 months old (they happened to be in the same week). DH and I just took DS to the Orioles game Sunday for his 3rd birthday. He had a ball. They have a great kids area with a playground, moon-bounce and giant bobble heads that the kids like to play on. To give you a little more info-we were able to take plenty of food in. DS had all of his favorite snacks. We also found a kids hot dog at one of the hot dogs stands. It was $1.50. Also if you go to fans assistance across from the flag court during the game they will give your little one a first game certificate and a pin.
