I know it is early for a FFFC or maybe late but here is the backstory:
Dear friends of ours were at a egg decorating party with their 20 month old. They were feeding him popcorn. Now, I didn't say anything when they moved their son from RF to FF at one year because their pedi said it was okay.
But I couldn't get the idea of the little boy choking out of my head. I asked if they were feeding him popcorn and they said yes, they give him lots of different junk food now. I left it at that.
Was I wrong to say anything in the first place or should I have said that popcorn is a serious choking hazard?
Re: I judged
Charlie likes popcorn and I just make sure I break the pieces up and remove the hulls as I give it to him. I guess I'm not that worried about it, since it pretty much melts in your mouth.. compared to grapes and other big choking hazards.
My pedi said no to many choking hazards until 18 months--or when your LO had most of the primary teeth (Aaron has 16--all but the 2 year molars).
I've never given him popcorn (possibly because I don't want to see popcorn poop) but he gets grapes often. But I DO quarter grapes. I give whole blueberries, though. They're much smaller.

Yeah, unfortunately that is one of those things. Here Noah is 3.5 and he is now just allowed to eat popcorn and yes I still split his hot dogs down the length and make him eat grapes carefully or cut them in half. But, also Noah stuffs his face with stuff and is not careful about chewing.
Now Finn is 20 months old and doesn't really eat anything...still so the thought of him eating or being around popcorn is terrifying.
In any event, you can't really say anything unless it has an effect on your child somehow, like if Finn was sitting next to a bowl of popcorn, I would ask that it be put somwhere out of his reach as he can't eat popcorn yet.
I probably would've given the side eye.
Popcorn is one of those things I read a news story about once - little 3-year old boy at movie theater with parents and choked - and it stuck with me. Although I realize, there are a lot of choking hazards out there.
Actually, now that I think about it, *I* almost choked on popcorn at the movies when I was in high school. It was SO scary.
So no popcorn for Aaron until he's bigger!

Um, really? As long as the child is being supervised and is drinking as well as eating the popcorn, it's not any more dangerous than many, many other things.
The "all kinds of junk food" thing was stupid but I don't really consider popcorn junk food unless it's covered in salt/butter/cheese.
Amy, I totally LOL'ed at your title. We have all been there, and given the side eye to other parents before. I think it's hilarious that you treat it like your FFC.
I PPH you girl!
