NBR: I need help with my Dell (windows 7)

I'm trying to watch a movie. It's telling me that I don't have a DVD decoder that is compatible with Windows 7. This computer is less than 6 months old. Anyone know wtf it won't play a movie? I'm trying to use Windows media player. I downloaded all the upgrades and what not. I went to windows page and the most current DVD decoder is from 2005. Help me out please. TIA.
