Pregnant after a Loss

Boo Ann Taylor Loft maternity

I bought a few things from Ann Taylor Loft maternity (they were having a great sale so I figured I'd stockpile a bit) and I'm so disappointed in the quality!!  It was really poor, and several of the pieces had no maternity structure to them at all- they were just baggy.  Yick!  My Gap maternity pieces were of much better quality.

  • Thanks for sharing! I love Ann Taylor Loft and I was actually shopping there online yesterday. Glad I didn't buy anything. Hope you can return what you got.

  • I liked A pea in the pod when I was pregnant with DD.  HOwever, unless you can find a sale, they are really expensive.

  • I've found ATL to be, in general poor quality (esp. the outlet, which is borderline unacceptable). I love the style but the stuff just doesn't hold up nicely. I think GAP has the best maternity clothing, and as pp mentioned, Pea in the Pod is really the only well-made brand in the Destination Maternity family.

Maternity clothes are a rip anyway. I haven't boughtshit this time except some long sleeved Ts at Target, I went into Motherhood and was FLOORED at how much they charge for their stuff. Because it's really not that great and it DOES NOT last.

i've not bought anything from Gap, but if ON, motherhood, and kohls are a good indication of quality maternity clothes....then there is no such thing as maternity+ quality.

it makes me SO mad to have to spend so much money on such crappy stuff.

True- it is so hard to find well-made pieces.  I love Isabella Oliver.  Gap is fine for t-shirts and such.  I found a few great pants/skirts at A Pea in a Pod.  I was really hoping ATL would be good for work clothes, but not so much.  Any other ideas?

I keep hoping I can get away with not buying much true maternity stuff. SIL gave me some of her shirts and dresses, and I have so many dresses and tops that are big and flowy enough for a belly, and considering it will be hot up and through the time I'm due, I don't need jeans or anything. I don't want to spend any money on stuff that is poorly made that I can only wear for a few months.

I think this is entirely possible. I have quite a few shirts that I wore all nine months. My favorite pants to wear where kind of a flowy roll-down waisted  black, and gauchos with a roll down waist. None of them were maternity. I also have some skirts with the roll down, and my Joe's jeans actually still fit (they are actually looser since I have technically lost weight). Maxi dresses work the entire time too.

Maternity shirts are the worst. They are designed so poorly -- esp. if you are big busted. You literally HANG out of them (they all have that dumb criss cross design), so you always have to wear a tank under. Early on they look like tents. And when your belly gets really big they become too short. I rarely wear them (except cotton tees, which I adore).

  • I just looked at a Pea in the Pod for the first time and good Lord they are expensive! It is like they are the Abercrombie of maternity clothing. It is like $69 for a long sleeve t-***!

I think it's a giant conspiracy. They purposely make the cheaper stuff so horrible, so when you see the expensive stuff, if you really NEED to look put together, you are almost forced to buy it. That's probably why they starting putting a lot of it in the same store, so you could see it side by side.

On a related note, has anyone been in a true Pea In the Pod? I am not sure they even have the stand-alones anymore. But when I was pg. with DD (before "Destination Maternity" existed, it was luxury. They gave you Perrier, chair massage etc.

I wear the tanks under almost all of my shirts too but it's because I'm so small that all of the shirts are too low cut or if I lean over a little bit, the shirts are hanging open!   Nobody wins.

Old navy's styles are horrible from what I've seen so far. I'm so happy my cousin gave me some summer shirts from 7 years ago because shirts with an empire waist look so much better than the potato sacks I saw at ON.  ATL is crazy expensive, but I hate how Target isn't any great steal either.

  • I have a lot of gap maternity stuff that I've accumulated in the last couple of years. The quality seems pretty good. I have a few pea in the pod things too- though I agree, they are so expensive. Here's hoping I make it to a round stage this time.
