comparing babies

Lily is going to be 7 weeks old (WOW) today when I was watching Bringing Home Baby I caught myself comparing my DD with the LO on TV when they show them a few weeks older... Not in a bad way, but I guess just as reassurance that Lily is developing "normally".

Re: comparing babies

  • Personally, I am tired of hearing people comparing my LO to someone else's. EVERY baby develops/ grows differently, you really can't compare 2 babies to each other. My mom does this all the time and it really bothers me. Yesterday, my baby was so much more alert than my brothers and my brothers "isn't developing properly".... today, my LO isn't blinking like she should be and she has something wrong with her eyes.... The only thing wrong with her eyes is that someone keeps almost poking her in them. UGH. Sorry, I know this isn't exactly what you mean but today was a bad day.

no worries :) If people kept comparing my baby to everyone else I'd feel the same way

  • I'm sorry, but I want to vent about this too - even though I know it's not why you posted this.  My MIL is always comparing my son (born at 40w5d) to my SIL's triplets (born at 32w).  Hello, they are premies!  Premies, especially that early, are always behind on development!  It's annoying.  She's always saying that my son is a "genius" because he's alert, looks around, has good head/neck strength/control, etc.  Well, duh, he came out practically a week old, haha!

  • I've been watching A Baby Story, Bringing Home Baby, etc. a lot too, and I think it's really interesting when they show the baby a few months later. My LO is 3.5 weeks old, so I'm always curious to see how the baby changes from the time it's a newborn to when it's a couple months old.

yea, you can tell the difference when the babies are premies...   A relative of mine had their son about 3 months before the due date (LO only weighed a little over a pound) and although he is now a healthy little boy, he isn't as developed as other babies his age
