Babies: 9 - 12 Months

When are you switching to whole milk?

And how? Adi will be one in about a week and a half, and I gave him a little whole milk mixed with BM yesterday, just to see how he did. He loved it, and he seemed to tolerate it well...do I just keep mixing it with BM, and when should I up the amount of whole milk, and how long before I put him on straight whole milk?

Also, if you go organic, do you still plan to give baby pasteurized whole milk?

  • DD is BF.  She has had a few ounces of WCM from a sippy or bottle for almost 2 months now.  I plan have her fully weaned in 3 weeks, so she'll be on 100% whole milk.  It is up to you what you do and how quick you do it.  I never mixed it with any of my kids.  Thankfully they LOVE it!

  • Adi seems to like it, too. So I could start with like one whole bottle a day, and hopefully be fully weaned in about a month? He nurses to sleep at night, and we bedshare, so I could eventually bring a bottle to bed...unless someone has a magic solution to get him to sleep in his crib. I have tried everything.

  • We will start in about a month (maybe a little less) so that he's drinking mostly milk by his 1 year appointment.  Our pedi suggests this so that we can discuss any issues/how he's doing.

  • I plan to start mixing it in her bottles soon. She is bfed and gets pumped BM in a bottle while I am at work. I keep coming up a 2-3oz short with pumping so I am hoping this will make up the difference. With DD1 we transitioned at 1 to straight whole milk and it upset her tummy so we are hoping to ease into more this time.

  • Our child health nurse suggested mixing cow's milk with boiled water to make it a little easier on tummies at first, I tried giving Lucy this as a drink a few days ago but it wasn't taken so well from the bottle - she still loves just water from her bottle.

I might try it in a cup...she has WCM on her breakfast cereal so I know she can tolerate a small amount but hopefully she will be fully off bm by the end of this year (we are only doing one morning and one night feed now)
