Preemies

Recommend your preemies fav. 'sitting' toy...

I am trying to encourage Kate to sit.  Help me Grow has told me she is delayed, and needs me to do anything possible to encourage her to want to sit up independently.  We have the Bumbo, also I try to support her back/hips with a Boppy.  I even use the fisher price small feeding seat, and use toys on the tray.

I try and hold her in a sitting position for listening to books, or for playing with her with some toys, but she will want to always go back to laying flat on her back.  If you had something or a certain toy/activity table/small to the ground items that helped your preemie want to "sit"  I would love any suggestions.

  • Andrew absolutely HATED to sit because his core was so weak and it made him spit up so much.  For those reasons he despised his Bumbo chair. We never had him in a bouncer or exersaucer or swing, he couldn't sit much, and around that age he just got kind of bored.

We found this toy and man, it was a life saver.  He leaned on it a lot and was entertained.  As he got stronger he needed the support less.  I got it used on CraigsList so I didn't pay much at all.

For fun, here's a pic of my little guy playing with it for the first time.

  • You are welcome!  It was a little tricky for me to find one but worth the search. :-) He loved it for a long time and was getting frustrated at his lack of ability to sit or move, so this made him happy.
  • I'm looking on craigslist and ebay.....She arches "back" so much so...they sent her for a CP eval.  the Neuro wants to see her again before her 1st birthday.  I work so much with her to get her to "sit" or try to stay foward.  She always wants to arch back/go straight to standing.

I'm sure the awful reflux just adds to it...  thank you again for posting this.
