baby with a icky nose

Its just one of those days for me..... Ive been to the ER with my 2yr old, she shoved a HUGE chunk of apple up her nose and got it lodged, fun.

But my biggest thing, Ive got a fussy 2wk old with a runny/snotty nose. Not sure what to do, do I give her Ibprophen? Do I just keep comforting her? Ive tried to suction her nose with a bulb thing, but its just not taking, and Ive been comforting her best I can. I am praying though that at some point I start to get more then 2 or 3 hrs of sleep a night, Ive never gotten this lil sleep with any of my kiddos, well best be off... I hear LO fussing again, Dunno maybe she needs to eat (seeing as shes spitting up a lot seems like all she eats, but Im sure shes keeping some down). Sigh.

  • Have you tried the Baby Saline nasal spray? I use that and sometimes Q-tips to get stubborn boogies/snot, when its in the bottom part of my LOs nose.

  • I should've read your post before I posted something about my DD :)

anyway... I would not give LO ibuprofen without talking to her pediatrician...  When I called about Lily being sick this morning I was told to use saline nasal spray, and a humidifier in her room. I was also told to call them right away if her temperature was over 100 degrees

  • I also rec the saline spray.  Also the nose frida is AMAZING even though it looks weird.  It works so much better than those bulb things!

  • Keep her elevated when sleeping, run a humidifier, use saline drops and suction with the bulb.  That is pretty much all you can do at this age.

Also, ibuprofen cannot be used until 6 months old.  Only Tylenol (acetaminophen) can be given...but I don't think that will help with her nose, unless she is running a fever.  If she is, and it is over 100.4, then you need to call your pedi.

  • like others have said, call your pediatrician first. my little girl had a a icky nose that only seemed to get worse even with the drops and suctioning her nose so our pediatrician had me bring her in.  turned out it was RSV (beginning stages) and she had to be hospitalized for 4 days to get oxygen and whatnot.
