Natural Birth

Are you having a home birth? We're in the same state, curious if you see a HB MW.

  • We are actually going for as homelike as possible at a hospital-- we are working with midwife Karen Shields who delivers waterbabies at Elmer Hospital (weirdly enough she is the midwife in the waterbirth video on babycenter).  We have to travel about one hour to appointments, but she is amazing, supportive, and so worth it.  In order to be her patient epidurals are out of the picture.  If you are in South Jersey, I highly suggest calling her-- Gentle Beginnings is the name of her practice.  I think if you are in North Jersey, Hackettstown Hospital does waterbirths.  I haven't actually heard of any home midwives in NJ through my experiences, but I am sure they are around!  Depending on how close you are to Philly, you could try for the Bryn Mawr Birth Center, too.

I see Dina Aurichio for home birth out of Branchburg, NJ. The only other option was Jessica Lawlor, but I am not within her radius. I was just curious who you saw though! I'll be doing a water birth here at home in Hillsborough. (Central Jersey.)

She has another office in Ocean Grove. Not sure if that is near you, or if it is more south of me? I believe her and Jessica are actually the only two home birth midwives in NJ.

  • Thanks so much for sharing that info!  I think Ocean Grove is aways away from me.  But I definitely am happy to hear that there ARE hb midwives in NJ at all.  I hope you have a beautiful birth!
