Okay, so I wasn't sure I was going to be able to breastfeed, and with a baby who is seriously hungry ALL the time and having had a breast reduction a few years ago (and my milk never came in with Finn) I was certain it wouldn't work. We have been getting her on, although she pulls off pretty quickly, and so she has been having bottles for the past 2 days. Imagine my surprise when I woke up in the middle of the night with hard as rock boobs and milk. So, I think I will need to pump, and have no idea what pump to get. Should I rent a hospital grade one? Buy one? Any suggestions?
Re: Breastpump?
I would rent one from the hospital at first. They are stronger. We rented one for the first month with Alec--I think it's around $36ish? (could be wrong) and I think it may qualify for an HSA card if you have one.
Yay for being able to nurse after a reduction. I was surprised myself that I could produce. I used the rental hospital pump ($70/month from Piedmont) and it worked pretty well. Not really portable though. Just a PSA, this site is a good resource for post reduction moms and the ladies on it are super supportive. www.bfar.org
Babies R Us also rents hospital grade pumps.
If/when you buy please please please invest in a good one. Nothing on this earth is more valuable to me than my Medela PSA. It has kept my suply up for 11 months of exclusive pumping.
