So Fin has a fever AGAIN! He was fine yesterday morning, but I noticed it around 1pm when I was trying to get him down for a nap - his head was really hot, so I checked and it was 101.5.
We treated with Ibuprofin and Tylenol, and it has gone down but back up again. Today it was 99.7 when he woke up, but 100.3 before his nap.
He has no other symptoms. The only thing weird is that he woke up last night around 11pm when I went in his room, and was up for almost 3 hours - not really crying or fussing, but just not sleeping. He had a fever then though, and our house was really freaking hot - so I am not convinced that he wasn't just uncomfortable from the heat.
What should I do? He doesn't seem sick. Should I do anything besides treat with meds? Keep him home, in the house? I don't know how to handle this as he doesn't seem sick.
He is working on getting his molars in - could it just be that? The doctor said last time this happened that it couldn't be teething with a temp this high - but it's the third time we've had a high temp for a few days with no other symptoms besides teething...
Re: Fevers?
Has he ever had an ear infection? That would be my first thought. My kids get them quite often, and more times than not, the only symptom is feverishness. They even act OK through a lot of it, no whininess to indicate illness.
I agree that a temp that high doesn't seem consistent with teething. Maybe call the pedi's office to see what they would advise? If you treat it/watch it at home, and the fever comes back despite giving motrin, etc., I'd call the doctor.

J usually always ran a low-grade temp through a rough patch of teething. He also seemed to get a runny nose and a nice diaper rash to accompany the fever. Strange, I know. I never would have believed it until it happened for the third time, together. I also agree with Katie - it could be an ear infection. Most of the time, J has night wakings with his ear infections; but, sometimes, it just manifests in a mid-grade fever without [m]any other symptoms.

I'm so glad you suggested calling the doctor. I didn't want to because I felt like the worrywart mom that calls about every little thing!

Fevers shouldn't last, especially when they're that high. Even if they're viral, that's a high temp. Given his age, you can't worry too much.
