Pregnant after a Loss

XP: Prenatal with methylfolate?

This is probably a longshot, but is anyone on a prenatal that has l-methylfolate (type of folic acid) like Neevo? What kind is it and are they large pills (like Women's One a Day prenatals or larger)? My OB said she would recommend one if I wanted it b/c of my MTHFR, but it would be larger than my current prenatal and not chewable.

  • I take a separate pill for that. So, I take a regular old prenatal and a Metanx (which is 3mg of the "converted" folic acid).

I read about that. I mentioned it to my OB on the phone and she said Folgard was more common. I'm wondering if she was not familiar with Metanx?! I have an appt with a RE next week so I'll also mention this to her.

  • I take additional methylated folate, called "actifolate".  Not prescription.  Made by Metagenics.  I've had 2 successful pregnancies on it.

  • Hi, I work with Neevo. While Metanx does contain L-methylfolate, Neevo is indicated as a prenatal and more commonly prescribed for pregnant women.

Having an MTHFR diagnosis means that traditional folic acid may not be effective in raising your folate levels. Folate is vital pre-conception and throughout the pregnancy. You should seek folate support from a more focused diet and/or a more modern form of supplementation, such as L-methylfolate. This will give you some additional insight on MTHFR and explain how L-methyfolate bypasses the genetic limitations of MTHFR. https://www.neevodha.com/mthfr-polymorphism/

Neevo has an excellent coating and virtually no taste or scent. You can find patient testimonials here. https://www.neevodha.com/testimonials-high-risk-pregnancy/

    I hope this helps.
