Ptosis- to Cinci Childrens Opthamology we go!

C's right eye has had some droopyness since about 4 months old.  It's getting progressively worse and I am noticing it as low as her pupil more frequently so I took her to the Peds today and they said yeah- time to get it seen.

Anyone have a baby with this?  All I see for treatment is surgery, which is fine if it fixes the issue and prevents any eyesight issues.  Apparently untreated it can cause a wandering eye and vision issues.

Glad they didn't dismiss me as a crazy mom worried about a droopy eye!

  • I don't have experience with this, but I am glad you were proactive and stuck to your gut feeling.  Which doctor are you seeing?  Katelyn sees Dr. West.  She has also seen Dr. North.

  • Serena's left eye doesn't open as wide as the right one but it isn't noticeable right now.  We're keeping an eye on it and mentioning it next month for her 4 month visit.  Keep us posted on what happens please.

  • We saw Dr. North for DD's preemie retina checks. Loved him.

I myself have a wandering, slightly towed out eye. It was undiagnosed. Now, I have to wear prisms in my glasses to stop myself from seeing double when I am tired. I get terrible headaches from it. I think being proactive about it is the best thing! You don't want them to have to deal with this as an adult. It can be really frustrating.

  • No idea who we will be seeing but we go next Monday!  I'll update afterwards.

It has just gotten progressively worse, and it started around 4 months.  This past weekend at one point when she was tired she barely had her eye open.  That's when I said we HAD to get her in.  The watching and waiting is what we had been doing but it is obvious now that it is just getting worse.

I feel comfortable with Cincy Childrens after what we experienced with their genetics department.  If the rest of them are that good I am sure we will be fine!  Also my best friend's son had his kidney removed there so it seems like they attract some of the top docs for kiddos!

     :)
