Opinions please: white nursery furniture for boy?

We just found out we are having a boy, so now I am torn on nursery furniture.  We have a large bookcase shelving unit that is white that we will be keeping in the nursery, so I was originally thinking of getting white crib and dresser to match.   FYI, we are not planning on using the nursery furniture for toddler room down the road, just for the nursery.

So my questions are: (1) do you think white furniture is too girly for baby boy?  (2) alternatively, do you think the large white shelving unit in combination with darker wood furniture would look okay?

Re: Opinions please: white nursery furniture for boy?

  • I love white nursery furniture and had it for DS.  I say go for it!

  • I don't think white furniture is too girly at all.  Our crib is light blond and white, and our changing table is white.  I think white looks nice and clean.
  • I think white would be just fine! I just googled "white crib boy nursery" and looked at the images and there are a ton and they look wonderful.

  • I love white baby furniture. We are team green and doing white furniture.

I think white shelving with dark furniture would probably be fine, but I would prefer all white.

  • White would look great especially with a good wall color! I say go for it!
  • WHite is about as neutral as you can get. I don't see that as girly at all.

  • We are also having a boy and have decided to go with white furniture.  I think it is fine so long as you don't choose pieces that are more feminine (e.g., no flower cutouts and some of the other detailing).

  • Go for it... have fun and make it your own.  We're team green, and I was totally planning to do white furniture.
  • We're team green and getting white furniture.  I prefer lighter furniture b/c I feel it is more "baby" and more youthful.  My H specifically said he feels like darker furniture reads very cigar lounge and not baby's room.  We're painting the walls blue with lots of yellow, orange, and green accents...and if baby is a girl there will be some pinks and purples in there too.  I don't see how the white furniture could possibly make our blue/green/yellow room read as "girly"

  • Ditto to all PPs. We are having a boy and his furniture is white. Blue walls and blue and tan decor, it's coming along well and doesn't look girly at all.

  • Ditto what everyone else has said. I love white nursery furniture and have thought about painting mine for DS, which is stained. (it looks like a beaver attacked it because DD chewed it up so much. I'm too cheap to replace the crib when I know DC#2 will likely chew on it also!)

  • White furniture is great for both boys and girls. White goes with everything! I think you should just go for the white.
  • Our nursery furniture is white too and we love it! I don't think it's too girly at all..I think it's gender neutral

  • white furniture is totally fine for a boy.
  • I love white furniture but ended up going with the dark wood convertible crib (crib, to toddler, to full sized bed).  My SIL brought up a good point in that kids are really messy and white furniture shows all the stains.  I remember having a white dresser as a kid and my sister and I drew all over it with magic markers.

  • We're having a boy and white nursery furniture.  It's bright and cheerful!
  • I am also planning on doing white furniture for our baby boy's room.  I also think it just looks more "baby" than darker wood.

  • We are doing white whether we have a boy or girl.  We are team green - going to order the crib after the baby is born.  Graco Victoria for girl, Graco ?? for boy.  I LOVE the Graco Victoria, but it is too girly for a boy IMHO.
  • We have white furniture in our DS's room. It's so cute! We have a red bookcase in there, too.

We're about to move the white furniture to our new girl's room and Andrew will get a big boy bed in a wood stain color and keep the red bookcase.

I think white furniture is just fine for a boy nursery! Enjoy!

  • I think white is just fine. We are having a boy as well and decided on the Catalina crib from PB (It looked white on the website, but it's actually more ivory, which practically matches the trim in the room.).  There is plenty of cute bedding out there for boys that looks very nice with white furniture.
