City Mini/Chicco Keyfit vs Britax B-Ready/Chaperone

Which would you choose of these two combos?

- Chicco Keyfit 30, with Snap n' Go (friend is giving me hers), then the City Mini for later on.  I love that the City Mini closes up so easily, and is easy to maneuver.  However, the handle height is not adjustable and it is a tad bit too high for my comfort. I'm only 4'10".

- Britax Chaperone with Britax B-Ready stroller.  I love the different configurations and that the child can face me, the handle height is adjustable, and it would only be about $80 more than the Chicco/City Mini combo.  Downside is that it is heavier.

Thanks!

  • Being that we have the Keyfit and City Mini I'm going with that option. While I love Britax for convertible seats, I didn't like the infant option - the Chaperone.  However, we use our CM for our travel/umbrella stroller and not for everyday and we love it for those functions.

The CM has a smoother ride than the B-Ready.

  • I was between the same strollers/combos and finally just bought the Britax.  It arrived the other day and DH and I set it up and rolled it around for a bit.  I LOVE it.

I mainly bought it for the adjustable handles etc since I'm petite as well and I realized though I loved the City Mini, the handle bar would be an issue (even at 5'2). It has plenty of storage and I really liked how easy everything about it is.

The infant seat is pretty big though so be aware of your car and the measurements.

Have you tried putting it in the trunk of your car yet?  Do you find that it's too heavy?  The Britax is about 9 lbs heavier than the City Mini, I'm just trying to think which makes more sense for me.

  • I don't think it will be an issue, without the car seat in it its actually really light since its just the frame.

I figured by the time the regular seat was back in I will have built back up my upper body strength from carrying future DD around.  :)

Britax pros outweighed cons since my only real con was that its heavier then the CM...and City Mini had more cons then pros..

Britax Pros:  large storage basket, seats face either direction, adjustable handle, easy fold (not one hand but easy all the same), easy to turn into double stroller with or without infant seat/reg seat saving $$ in the long run...comes w accessories, including infant seat attachements, belly bar, cup holder, storage "stuff" holder, rain cover...(feel like I'm forgetting something)

    Britax Cons:  Heavier then CM

City Mini Pros:  One hand fold, lightweight...

City Mini Cons:  awful storage, and because of weight I worried about tipping if you have a diaper bag attached to handle bars, Pretty much EVERYTHING other then the stroller is extra...once you buy all the accessories (assuming you want/need any) you're looking at an additional $25-$100, single stroller

  • I bought the black stroller ($413) with silver black car seat ($183 but "free") from Amazon...and after it was all done (I moved my due date to April so I could use the 10% completion coupon, I already have a prime membership) the entire system cost $396 after WA taxes....without them it would have been $352 or so and change.

City Mini + Keyfit might actually cost about the same, or even more if you don't have to pay a bunch of taxes like I did!

  • Definitely go and feel the weight difference.  I thought I could handle the weight difference and then realized that if I was out the City Mini was what I could handle.  So for me the weight won out over everything else.  But, mind you we now have 2 strollers the city mini and the city select.
  • I'd go with the B-ready, your baby will love the comfort and I am sure it travels well. I personally wouldn't buy a stroller just bc it has a one click fold. Having said that, my stroller has a one click fold and while I love it, it's the not best thing to like about it. LO loves the bassinet, she sits pretty high, the handle bars are adjustable (GREAT!! bc you never feel like you have to slouch to push) and I feel more comfortable knowing that the infant seat is made by the same manufacturer. We have an Orbit Baby stroller and the B-ready is a similar concept in terms of fold, etc and our orbit folds and fits very compactly in the car since the seat fits over the stroller when collapsed...this is not the same with most full size strollers. The Keyfit is super bulky, I never even considered it bc I just remembered seeing it around and didn't like it.
  • We registered for the City Mini/Chicco Keyfit. I hurt my back a few years ago, so the weight difference really matters to me. My car is also tiny (Scion XA) and the trunk is even smaller, so I know that the City Mini will fit in the trunk.

We're also in Florida, so I know that the super big sunshade will come in handy.

  • We have been using the Chicco Keyfit and City Mini as our only stroller/carseat combo (with the Chicco adapter piece).  It's fantastic.  The carseat sits up higher than it would in a SnG, which is nice.  The CM is incredibly, ridiculously easy to maneuver; you can easily turn it with one hand - it turns on a dime. I really like 3-wheeled/jogger strollers for this reason.  I feel like 4-wheeled strollers are like shopping carts when it comes to turning (pull back first, then push in the other direction).

The tires are very durable, too (and they're rubber, not hollow plastic). We've gone all-terrain a few times (through mud, over debris on the road after heavy winds, over train tracks, through gravel, etc.) and have had no issues.  The ride has always been very smooth for LO.

People will complain about the basket storage, but I've had no issues with it. I had a diaper bag, thick blanket, bottle cooler bag, umbrella, jacket (for myself), and car seat bunting thingy all stored in it yesterday and no problems fitting it all in or getting anything out.

I just pushed her in a 6-mile charity walk yesterday (hills included) and so I can definitely vouch for its ease of use and comfort!

  • We're going with the City Mini / Chicco.  After test driving both at a store (with gallon water jugs to simulate weight) we liked the lighter weight options.  I also liked the safety reviews of the Chicco carseat and with our Subaru's back seat space constraints was somewhat concerned the Britax (or others) wouldn't fit.

The other factor for us was honestly cost.  The Britax were more than we can swing right now and the City/Chicco were more budget friendly though certainly not cheap or lacking in safety etc.

The Britax B-Ready, with free Chaperone car seat, are on Amazon right now for $399, including free shipping and no tax to my state.  The City Mini and Chicco Keyfit, plus the adapter or snap n' go would cost around $490+tax.
