When does formula expire (Couldn't find the answer on google)

If formula expires in May 2011, does that mean you have all of May to use it up, or on May 1st you gotta trash it?  I found a great price for Alimentum on craigslist, but it expires May 2011. . .I am assuming May 1st, but for $5 bucks a can it was worth asking!

  • We don't FF but here's my take. I would go ahead and order it. Whatever is in there is stable enough to be left at room temp opened for at least a few weeks (right you don't have to use the whole can right away?) so I would feel comfortable using it up to a month after it's expiration date, maybe even longer. Unless something can actually spoil (sour cream, milk) I use the expiration as a suggestion.

  • I would think it would be good until the end of May, or like the pp said maybe even longer than that.

  • I am feeling the same way. . .I would def use up the cans before June 1st.

  • My honest opinion- I wouldn't do it.  When you buy formula on the shelves the expirations are anywhere up to 2 years out.  Always at least a year.  Which means that formula has been around awhile.  Which is fine, but you don't know if it was stored properly, etc.  I'm just saying... but if you do it I'd assume you can use it anytime in May.
