Babies: 0 - 3 Months

2 to 3 month Mommies

LO can do tummy time really well on me or flung over the Boppy.  She's bobbin that head all around and lifting up. She even sits with pretty good head/neck control. On the floor though, she does nothing but bury her face straight into the blanket.  I almost always have to intervene after a bit because it looks like she's suffocating herself.  I feel bad because I have a feeling I just didn't do enough tummy time during month one because she was such a power sleeper.  We didn't have a whole lot of awake time to get a lot of tummy time in.

Anyone else have a lazy baby that will make me feel better?

  • Seriously, don't worry so much about tummy time! Sounds like her neck muscles are doing just fine! Even holding her gives her a chance to strengthen those muscles. You just don't want her lying on her back 24/7. How you vary that really doesn't matter much at this age. We moms really make ourselves crazy sometimes, don't we? Have you seen the documentary "Babies"? I bet most of us aren't leaving our babies alone with the cows in the field, so I'd say we could be doing a lot worse.

  • I have the same problem. I'm afraid to send her to kindergarten because if things don't change if she falls at recess she'll suffocate in the grass.

  • Thanks, I probably wouldn't be so worried but I have one of those pedis that seem kinda judgmental in a passive aggressive way.  I told her the same thing I posted, and she kinda gave me the eye and told me that I need to keep doing the floor tummy time to have her working against gravity.

  • My LO hates tummy time on the floor so we do a lot of tummy time on us or on his boppy. Some Pedis are very by the book on this. My pedi said DS is doing just fine and as long as he is getting time not on his back and gets the opportunity to hold his head up more that is fine. To me tummy time on the floor would be boring. Gravity will play a role even when you are holding your LO, doesn't have to be on the floor. Sounds like your LO is doing fine!

I put my LO in the grass for tummy time to let her feel the texture...she tried to eat it.  Like a goat.  She didn't want to pick her head up either.
