Cincinnati Babies

Is it normal to have dreams about your baby like this?

I'm freaked out...

I've not had a dream about Nolan until now. Today is started out perfect!! Shhhh I actually like this weather! I used to curl up in bed with a good book & my furbabies and veg out. Now I get to curl up with Nolan some much neglected furbabies & just stare at him for hours (my new favorite hobby)

Anyway, we dozed off (safely!!) During my less than hour and a half nap I had two dreams that horrified me!!

#1 - I left Nolan in the car while getting Kev's dry cleaning & taking it up to his office building. I didn't realize I had "left" him until I saw another mom with a baby getting off the elevator. When I went to get him there was construction around the parking lot that I was parked in & couldn't get the workers attention(s) to help me.

#2 - I  had put him in his bouncer seat with a bib on & somehow (I'm not going into the details or what it looked like) but he choked himself. I found him blue & throwing up.

To say I'm FREAKED out & want to know why I had these dreams is obvious. I'm not getting enough sleep now with being up every 2-3 hours to feed - now I have to be afraid to go to sleep also?

Tell me this was normal & I don't need to sign up for therapy asap!

  • I believe it is fairly common.  I know I had a lot of really scary dreams like that when my kids were babies too.

This is an intersting article. While this is about thoughts you have when you are awake, it still is the same idea..

DEFINITELY read this article. I have OCD (had it for as long as I can remember), and this sums things up nicely.

Bingo. Also, I remember reading a blog post (babyrabies, maybe?) on the topic. My [awake] visions were pretty intense when J was an infant; however, so far, I haven't had [m]any since W was born.

  • Wow, I am glad I'm not the only one. I have been having terrible dreams and also visions/thoughts while I'm awake. I don't even want to write the types of things I have thought about, it scares me to death! One dream that I have had several times is DS slipping down into the water while I'm bathing him. I just try to redirect my thoughts and not dwell on scary dreams that I can't control.

  • I have had two horiffic dreams that felt so real.  Both involved Katelyn falling down a flight of stairs.  I could hear the thud in my dream and, man, it sounded so real.  And I won't get into the details of going down there to get her.  Ugh, gives me shivers and scares me to pieces.

Yes, yes, yes. Unfortunately, it's like trying to not think of pink elephants. The more you try not to think about it, the more you can't stop yourself. I put myself on Zoloft in 3rd tri because I knew it was going to be a problem and I wanted to head it off. Best thing I ever did. I stayed on until about 4 months pp.

The crappy thing is that there isn't a whole lot that you can do to make it stop, other than constant redirection. That's why I count things :p

  • i have dreams like this. the worst one ever was about 2 or 3 months ago. i dreamt that both boys were murdered (im shivering as i say it) i never "witnessed" it in my dream but i literally spent the whole night in "mourning" even when I was waking up and going back to sleep the dream cont'd right where it left off. i cried a lot that morning and squeezed my babies tight. it was SO real, ive never lost anyone close to me so the feeling was shocking.
