We found out at 13 weeks and 3 days with both our kids...based upon the angle of the dangle...and it was a free ultrasound thanks to my mom who works L&D. I don't like to go any earlier than 13 weeks if you want an early "guess"...It's always a fun experience!
With my first PG, I asked the u/s tech at my NT scan if they could tell. They refused to tell me either way. Turns out, the u/s techs were instructed not to tell patients the gender that early, even if they were very sure. They won't do it any sooner than the 20 week u/s. I guess the hospital was afraid of people relying on a mistake.

Last pg, my NT u/s tech was a dud and wouldn't even guess for fun. Many women do get guesses and a majority of them are correct (nothing to see for sure, but has to do with the angles).
Fortunate to be a SAHM to my 3 musketeers (5/2006, 5/2010 & 12/2011).
Soy & dairy free for the 3rd and final time.
I had a fun u/s at my old job and none of the u/s techs would tell me for sure and I was 16 weeks...they said they could make a guess, but until 18-20 weeks its not really developed enough to know for sure. I think they can make a good guess, but are more likely to be wrong if it's too early.
I posted about this the other day and found an article that said with high resolution u/s technology they can tell with 97% accuracy between week 12-13 and 100% after week 13.
Of course, the study was done related to sex-based genetic disorders and trying to prevent women from having an unnecessary amnio if the sex of the baby precluded a certain disorder. So the techs probably received special training and may have better equipment that what you or I would have for our NT scan. So I doubt these results are as accurate for you or I.
At 12 weeks it's really too early to tell. Check out the link that the PP posted. Basically all babies at that stage look like a boy. Some techs claim they can tell you the sex based on the "angle of the dangle", but it's basically a 50/50 guess. I've NEVER heard of anyone told that they were having a girl at that stage, because all babies look like they have a penis at 12 weeks. I'd wait until at least 18 weeks to know for sure.

Re: wonder if they can tell the sex at 12 week u/s??
