Postpartum bleeding ? (Kinda Gross)

Just wondering if any of you guys had your postpartum bleeding taper off, then come back really heavy before your six week appointment.  I had my baby five weeks ago tomorrow, and my bleeding had gotten very light and tan by three weeks.  Then, mid last week, it got darker brown, and yesterday evening I started soaking pads with bright red blood and dark clots.  The clots stopped over night and it got lighter, but I'm still bleeding bright red.  It looks and feels like a period (although it's coming with more vaginal pain than usual), but I'm breastfeeding, so I didn't expect it back this soon.  Anyone else have any similar experiences?  I called my doctor and am waiting for a nurse to call back, but I'm a little worried, so I thought I'd see if anyone on here could ease my mind.

  • Sounds to me like you might have got your first pp period. Just because your bf'ing doesn't mean you can't have a period like normal. Some bf'ers get their periods right away and some don't. It's like everything else, we're all different and there isn't any set time for things to happen.

  • That's what I figured too, but now it's back to being really light and tan again, so I don't know.  The nurse said that it could be a number of things and just to monitor it and call back if it gets to the point where I'm soaking more than one pad an hour.  Strange.  Maybe I just overdid it yesterday.

That could also be the problem.
