Did you snore when you were pregnant?

Oof....so apparently I have started snoring big time now that I've hit the end of the second trimester and the start of the third. And I guess it's gotten worse the last week or so. This according to my DH, who is driving me crazy waking me up to tell me I'm snoring. Yeah - thanks for that! I've tried the Breathe Right strips. Not working. I've tried elevating my head. Not working. I finally called my OB this morning and left a message to see what could be going on. I feel uber congested so maybe allergies are making it worse? no clue.

Anyone have snoring issues while pregnant? Any other recommendations? Thanks!

Re: Did you snore when you were pregnant?

  • Oooh yes. It can be a combination of things ... swollen nasal cavities which is causing congestion, and added weight. Not that I'm saying you've gained a bunch of weight, but you know ... there is a baby in your belly Wink

Anywho ... I have no suggestions. I wake my husband nightly to tell him he's snoring, but he thankfully never woke me. Maybe because he was scared? LOL Maybe one of you (cough, him, cough) could sleep in another room? I slept soooo much better when my husband was either out of town or in the other room. More often than not, I'd go to sleep next to him and wake up alone Embarrassed

  • yep! i think part of it is just all the extra weight you're carrying around too. Luckily my dh is a really deep sleeper so it doesn't wake him up, but he'd make fun of me when he hears me. I don't think i've started yet this pregnancy.

maybe try changing your sleeping position, like be sure you're on your side. and i'm sure your congestion, either allegry or pregnancy related is making it worse.  i don't think there's really anything else you can do. Just remind him that it's temporary!

ETA: this babycenter article explains it well

  • I snored like a TRAIN! It was only made worse by allergies and when those finally cleared up I was huge so I snored because of that. I woke up several times and DH had moved to the guest room which was fine because that meant I got a king size bed to myself Embarrassed

  • If it is congestion due to allergies maybe a humidifier with Vick's vapor tablets in the water?  It did wonders for DS when he was congested a few months ago.  Good word can the kid snore.  Other than that, I don't have any other ideas other than telling your DH that if your snoring bothers him so much that he can go sleep on the couch or in another room.  Ha.
  • Never been pregnant, but I use to work for a sleep clinic :)  Sleeping on your back makes you more likely to snore as well...since it's probably not comfortable sleeping on your stomach SOL there.  Maybe try your side like PP said?  And tell your DH to stop waking you up.  Good grief, you need sleep!

  • oh yes!  DH still makes fun of me now about it.  He said it stopped immediately after DD was born, then I snored when pg with DS and it stopped again right after he was born.  I really never found anything that worked.... I just told DH to suck it up because that was the least he could do since he wasn't carrying the baby ;-)
