Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Got a question about poop consistency

My son is a little over 7 months old.  Been eating baby food for a little over a month.  We feed him 1/2 veggie serving at night and 1/2 fruit in the afternoon.  He is primarily BF but supplements formula also.  In the pas,t his poop has been a greenish mush, which seemed normal.  But the past week, it has been a solid greenish lump.  He turns red trying to get it out but it only takes a few grunts and then he's done.  Is this normal?  Is it because he is eating more solids or is he constipated?  We have introduced a sippy cup with water but he doesn't really get much out yet, he is still trying to figure it out?  What will make the poop go back to being soft?

Re: Got a question about poop consistency

  • His poop is going to be different now that he is eating solids.  My DS poop isnt "hard" but not the same as when he ate strictly formula.  Also I know that if I feed rice cereal he tends to have a harder poop.  Are you feeding him cereal?? You if you are and you are doing rice I suggest trying oatmeal cereal for one of the feedings during the day.

  • No cereal, just the baby purees.  His poop is like one greenish nuggest now.
