Preemies

Baby Wearing?

I love baby wearing and want to BW with Tyler. I have an ERGO (for later). I know about the infant insert, but I have heard that it can be really hot and when he comes home it will be spring/summer so I don't think that it would work. SO I am looking into getting a Moby. I just don't know what works well with preemies (if there is any difference). What do you ladies recommend for baby wearing a preemie? TIA

Re: Baby Wearing?

  • My Moby is hot. DD came home in January. We have only tried itvaround the house and DD comes out sweaty. I am looking for another carrier too.GL

I loved my Moby with my prem. It cuddled him close to me like when we did kangaroo care.  And I could do so much with it on - I could even change my older son's diaper, or carry him around!  It got a little warm in the summer, but I would just wear a little tank top underneath (it covers you up pretty well) or nothing underneath if I was just at home.  Good luck!

  • Hi!  I bought an Ergo and the insert is hot.  So I then bought a Beco Butterfly 2.  It works wonderfully, ds doesn' get to hot and it is easy to use.  My ds was a 24 week preemie.
  • I got a Moby and it definitely got hot. I made sure to dress DD very lightly when she was in it. The Moby's nice for the littlest ones b/c you can fold them down...I used to fold mine pretty much in half and it fit DD perfectly when she was in the 4-6lb range.

  • Double check w/your NICU too- they told me not use use an ergo or baby bjorn b/c of Scarlette's hips- that spreading her legs like that would be bad for her. They might have rules for your baby so I'd ask before buying!

  • We used the moby from the time she was 4 lbs to 10 lbs. It is definitely hot. We switched to using woven wraps at 10 lbs bc the moby is stretchy and it started to pull on my back. Wovens are much more supportive and less hott if you get a thin wrap. Any carrier that supports the "froggy" legged position is good for baby's hip development. Ex: the Bjorn lets the legs dangle which can hinder hip development and is uncomfortable (I wouldn't want to be carried by my crotch lol). So any other carrier such as the ergo, mei tai, beco, would be fine too. Slings don't distribute the weight evenly like the other carriers and are not comfortable for long time use. If you have any more questions, the ladies on the Attachment Parenting board are really helpful :)
