Because I need a confessional...
Isaac just fell out of the crib, 4+ feet onto the hardwood floor, and maybe hitting the hard edge of the bed frame on the way down (it's next to our bed).
I heard him crying, and my mimmy-dar was going off, but we are trying a new sleep strategy of having DH on duty before midnight... DH was apparently so sound asleep he didn't hear him crying from 3 feet away.
We have an old drop-side we've been **meaning** to anchor up, but it seemed way to high for him to get out of, so we procrastinated.
I feel awful. We'll be waking him every two hours to make sure he's okay, so it'll be an even harder night on him.
Re: parenting fail
Oh no! That is no fun at all!
It happens though, kids will fall at some point! My niece rolled out of my sisters bed, and fell a good few feet when she was 6-7 months old.
It will be okay momma!
It's amazing to me how men can sleep through ANYTHING. This is why my DH doesn't have any night time requirements - I'd have to wake him up!
Anyway, I'm sure he's ok. I'm sure you are scared though and I completely understand. Did he push the drop side down? Or is the mattress still up? I didn't understand what you meant about anchoring it up ....
I hope your night isn't too long.... give him some extra cuddles. And kick your DH in the shins.
Ouch! Sooner or later we're all there (today N fell headfirst down the stairs on some play equipment), and we'll end up there again.
Keep a good eye on him tonight and trust your instincts if you think he needs to be seen.
Ouch
I'm sure it will be harder on you than Issac though. It definitely happens to everyone at some point. Hudson and I were at the park on Friday and I was walking up to take him down the slide again and I totally smacked the side of his head into the metal bar
I felt AWFUL ...but he seemed to get over it pretty quickly (despite the egg on his head .. ) Luckily kids are resilient!
I hope you got some sleep mama!
Thanks guys. He seems to be 100% fine - smily and laughing today. How terrifying, though!
SJ, you're right, the anchoring part was irrelevant, though we'll do that soon. The real issue is we had the drop side lowered so I could get him in and out of the crib without waking him. We had the mattress lowered, and the side still came up to almost should-height on a just-standing baby, so we thought we were fine.
We underestimated him.
I'm going to make an AWESOME big brother.
That kinda stuff is so scarey - I'm glad he's okay!
FWIW, I've forgotten to put M's drop side up and she's slept through the night that way and I didn't realize it until I've gone woken her up in the morning. Thank goodness she didn't figure it out the many times it's happened before I did!
