What to do with newborn before they're ready to share a room

We are planning on having our 2u2 (16 months apart) share a room once the newborn is STTN for the most part. We are having trouble figuring out what to do with the newborn before that happens. We had DS sleeping in his own room from about 4 weeks on, and I'm really glad we did that because I think it helped everyone sleep better. So we really don't want DD to be in our room for very long. We don't really have another room to put her in, though, besides DH's music room which is full of his amps and guitars and recording equipment, and which he needs for work....Any suggestions? TIA!

  • What about the living room? She could sleep in a PnP or bassinet in the living room until she's STTN and you want to move her in with DS. Also, I've had my 2 LOs sharing a room since the night we brought DD home, and she never wakes DS up. It might not be an issue if you have them share a room from day 1.

  • our plan is to have the new little one in our room for a few months and then transition them to the same room.  If our DS (20 months) still isn't totally in his big boy bed or we're ready to move the new LO out of our room before he's sleeping well all night- we'll set up the PNP or cradle in our dining room.

  • Do you have any other rooms that aren't being used?  If you want the newborn to have his/her own space, all you need is space for a PNP.  You could even use the laundry room!!  Haha.

  • DD2 is six months old.  She slept in our room until she was about 4.5 months.  She was a much quieter and better sleeper than DD1, so it worked out (I never would have thought, after DD1, that we could get any sleep at all with a newborn in our room, but different babies are different).  Our third bedroom is an office/craft room/spare room, but we put her in there in the PnP when we moved her out.  Then a little after 5 months, we moved her into the nursery with DD1.  She still doesn't STTN, but after a several-day adjustment period, they stopped waking each other up.  Last night I went in at 2 a.m. to feed her when I heard her crying and DD1 didn't make a sound.
