What would you do? {birthday party help}

So nausea (and dry heaving) have come back in full force the last few days and as I'm looking ahead to this week getting stuff ready for Emma's birthday party Saturday, I'm feeling extremely overwhelmed. I've had two or three meltdowns already (for example, today I had a meltdown because I thought it would scar Emma for life if she knew I didn't make her cake) Embarrassed. My biggest concern is getting all of the cooking & baking done, I have made her cake every year and feel like it's just not going to get done. I'm nervous that trying to cook anything will end up in disaster because I never know what will set off my gag reflexes and send me headed to the toilet. So this is my back-up idea:

Sandwich Platter(s) from Costco

Birthday Cake from Costco

Then I'd have fruits and veggies and some candies and cookies too.

Do you think anyone will care that I didn't make anything myself? I assume this is just my pregnancy hormones causing me to be overly sensitive and worried about this, but I need someone to tell me that it'll be okay and that in ten years, Emma will never know I didn't make everything.

  • Not at all! We did Costco for everything for M's 3rd b.day when I was pregnant.

    And I personally love Costco cakes, just had a piece yesterday at a party! yumm

  • The only thing she cares about is that you have fun! Happy mama = happy kiddo so go for it and give yourself a break. Do what you can and leave the rest up to costco. Put it out on nice plates and nobody will notice. I busted my ass for Logan's first birthday and hardly saw him and hated the whole day. I promised myself I'd never make it that complicated again. It's really ok.

  • We do costco everything for Holdens bday parties too!  I think people prefer it that way since Im not the best cook...

  • Whether my mom made my cake or bought it from the store, cake was cake and I was happy.  =)  Sometimes I even liked the store bought cakes cause I could get those cool decorations on them (like one year I wanted Garfield, and for my 22nd birthday I had a Finding Nemo ice cream cake that I had only been wanting for about 5 years =P )  Take a deep breath mama, her party will be great no matter where the goodies come from!

  • I had this big, great plan to make Collin's first birthday cake myself last year, on top of everything else I did, which included a ton of cooking. Well, I got stuck covering state softball the day before his birthday and literally dumped him, two boxes of cake mix and a Kitchenaid mixing bowl full of just-made green frosting on my mom's porch that afternoon. I was boo and hoo over it, but her cake ended up being fabulous, and if Collin is in therapy some day over me not making his first birthday cake, then I'd say we have done a pretty decent job raising him.

    My point being: Emma won't ever know, and you will have less stress. So I say either call Grandma, or call Costco!

  • Um, Costco cakes are bomb diggity!!!  :)

    It's perfectly fine to go store bought.  Look at it this way, if you make yourself sick, tired and stressed by make everything yourself, you'll definitely carry that mood into the party, and kids sense that kind of stuff.  Better to have a rested, happy mama in a great party mood so she can celebrate with her little girl, I say!

    (Can I come over for cake??)

  • oh gosh, don't worry!  Most of us go this route!  We just don't post a lot of pictures because our set ups aren't so fancy!  ;)   Don't worry.  She won't care.  No one will judge.  Food and fun is food and fun!!!  Doesn't matter who cooked it.  ;)

  • I would DEFINITELY go the Costco route if I was you! It will relieve so much stress and Emma won't care or notice!! All she cares about is having fun :) Relax and enjoy the party (as long as your symptoms will let you!!)
