Nurseries and Baby Gear

I hate picking paint colors, looking for some help please

We're starting to think about paint colors for the nursery.  I hate picking out colors, and I'm not very creative.

This is the bedding:

We already have a yellow bedroom, and a yellow bathroom, so I'm trying to stay away from yellow.  I was thinking green, but I'm open to suggestions.  We will be installing new carpet, which will be a neutral color, so no worries about having to work with that.  Probably going with Sherwin Williams paint, but open for pretty much anything!

I also must admit that I really like the border, and the two tone look to the room, but I really hate to just copy it right from the picture.  I'd like to be a little more creative than that!

Thanks in advance, I appreciate the help.  Smile

  • I would either do a neutral color like the walls in the picture, or find an orange that matches the orange in the giraffes and choose a lighter color from the same swatch.

If you really want the two-tone look you could do the light orange and a red pulled from the bedding set and do a big white border.

Sidenote: If you choose red, just keep in mind that it's a giant pain in the azz to cover (I'm currently refinishing a red dresser that already has 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of white paint and I STILL see red peeking through) and if you plan to move soon/are renting/don't want that color for awhile, I'd advise against it.

  • I would do tan or a light sagey green.  GL!

I made the mistake of painting my bedroom red, and hated it halfway through.  We lived with half painted walls for a couple of years, and just recently decided to start over.  It was a pain, so I will never do red again!

I'm really torn between bright and cheery, or doing something more toned down and neutral.  I'm leaning towards neutral, though.

Thanks for the advice so far!

  • Our whole house is painted Sherwin Williams Kilum Beige.  It's a neutral color.  Since that bedding has a lot going on, I would stay neutral, but that's me.

  • You could do  2 tone stripes like I did in the Colin's room post below...that way the room looks decorated without needing lots in it if that makes sense.  I just picked to colors next to eachother off the same swatch and that was enough contrast.  Love the betting, super cute!
  • I love the brown colors and red in the prints.  How cute would that be together.
