weight control while pregnant

I am feeling like a big hippo and I am wondering what some of you are doing to lose or keep weight gain under control? I have been gaining a lot in my mind and some very depressing months were big gains were registered.  I lost a lot via WW over 18 months from 2008-2010 so I am very self-conscious about this and exercising alone (pre-pregnancy) never resulted in losses.  I know I am getting close to what I was at my heaviest and that's depressing.  I know once the baby comes, a lot will go as a result of giving birth and I plan on hitting WW as soon as I am able right after birth (preferably same week) but right now I just feel like a hippo.

Re: weight control while pregnant

  • I am 25 weeks along with baby #2 and am watching my weight gain very closely.  I gained 60lbs with DS1 and my doctor doesn't want me to go that high again.  She suggested that I keep a food journal.  I am not eating a specific number of calories, but I am keeping track so that if my weight starts getting out of control, we know exactly how many calories I am currently eating and how much I need to cut back.  Maybe you could talk to your doc about something like this?

  • Even on my worst days I try my hardest to make sure I do some type of exercise.  It's not always easy, but keeping active has definitely created a much healthier and easier pregnancy for me this time around.  On days I feel good I do jog/walks plus some weights or strength DVDs... lots of lunges and on days I am just so tired I get on my stepper for at least 20 minutes or take DD for a walk around the neighborhood.

I also have kept a food journal from the day I found out I was pregnant.  I don't always count calories, but it keeps me very aware of what I am eating everyday... especially when I have to write down all of my little sweet tooth attacks!  I still have gained 35 pounds.. but my dr. is happy and fine with my weight gain... and these last few weeks I really stopped gaining... so the good news is it may level out for you too!!

  • I can hope so because even though my dr hasn't said anything except for once, I don't like it and I feel like a hippo.  Being exhausted after work makes it hard to exercise but I don't feel anything from it except for greater exhaustion.  It's frustrating.
