Trying to establish a routine

Has anyone had success with this yet?  My LO is 6 weeks old and up until this point we have been just watching for feeding/sleeping cues.  I feel like my days are all over the place and need some normalcy.  Especially with going back to work in 3 weeks.  What kind of routine are you following and what has helped you to get to that point?  Thanks!

Re: Trying to establish a routine

  • I'm pretty lucky that LO set his own schedule.  He usually goes to bed around 8:30 or so.  I do have a bed time routine where I give him a bath and either DH or I will read to him while I nurse him.  I go back to work tomorrow so we will see how things will change.  I'm sure the daycare routine will change us up some.  Good luck!

  • Right now LO usually wakes up between 8 and 9.  She eats and then is awake for about 2 hours.  She eats around 11 or 12 and then goes to sleep.  I usually have to wake her to feed around 3 and 6 and then she is up from about 6 to 11 eating about every hour to hour and a half.  Once she goes to bed at 11 or 12 she'll sleep until 4 or 5 and then wake around 6 or 7 to eat and goes back to sleep until she wakes for the day at 8 or 9.  She follows this schedule almost every day and it works for me so I haven't tried to change it at all.

Do you bathe him every night?  I haven't been because she is really dry, even with lotion.  I'm not sure how this affects the routine when it's not the same from night to night.

  •  I do bathe him every night, but I only use soap every other night.  The warm water calms and relaxes him.  I still use lotion after each bath and give him a mini massage.

i could have written this myself! tonight i really am going to try to get her in a routine tonight because i got about 2 left at home.  we usually bathe her during the day but we might go ahead and switch and make quiet time about 8 with a warm bottle and her Sleep Sheep.  other than that i have no clue about what to do. she eats every 2-4 hours. that's not exactly a schedule but i'm not going to let her go hungry either.  and naps are getting to be less frequent so we sing songs and watch tv when she's awake. what else is there to do?
