VBAC

In "early labor" and really need encouragement!

Hi Ladies -

I am pleading with you all for a little encouragement. I am 40 weeks and 4 days and have had contractions - sometimes in a consistent pattern - on and off for over a week. It's been pretty exhausting mentally, and today it hit a pretty tough point.

At 2:30am, I woke up with really uncomfortable contractions. They were 3-5 minutes apart and just bothersome (not "painful"). The most uncomfortable part was the nagging feeling of really heavy menstrual pain that I felt all the time, even between contractions.  By 4:15am, it became clear I wasn't going to be able to go back to bed and getting in a hot bath was the only thing that sounded good. I took a bath, got dressed, packed a bag, and got house things in order for my husband and I to go to my scheduled OB's appointment at 10:15am.

By my appointment time, things had slowed a bit, but I was still uncomfortable. He checked me . . . 0 CM dialated! I felt like such an idiot. I couldn't believe that my body had been doing ALL this work all week - and especially since 2:30am - with nothing to show.

We had a long talk with the doc about how it's still possible I could get my VBAC, how I still have a week to go into labor on my own (he will not induce or augment), etc., but we also discussed the harsh reality that some women just never dialate on their own, even with good labor contractions.

I guess what I need is some words of wisdom, a pep talk, somebody to say they think I still have a chance - something like that! Anybody experience anything like this (or know of anyone else who did) who can give some advice?

Thank you for reading and sorry it was so long!

Stacy

PS - My 1st c/s was due to my water breaking, labor never beginning on it's own, and failed induction with massive amounts of pitocin where I never progressed past 4cm

THANKS AGAIN!!

  • I have no experience. It sounds like a very frustrating and confusing situation!

Fingers crossed that your body cooperates and soon!

  • I would imagine that it has been a very tiring week for you! I'm sorry your contractions aren't translating into dilation yet. Did your OB mention any natural methods to help your body along? Sex, walking, evening primrose oil, acupressure? There are some good posts about natural induction on the natural birth board if you're interested in trying any of those things? I really hope you get your VBAC! You still have time, so try to keep the faith. We are here for you!

  • Here are my words of encouragement: I know you are tired right now, but stay strong for your baby and for the opportunity to have him/her naturally.  Think about how nice it will be to get to immediately bond with your baby and also of how much easier your recovery will be when you are done!

  • Thanks, everyone! I appreciate the words of encouragement. Isn't it funny how sometimes we just need someone to say "I believe in you"? :) I feel much better and VERY committed to waiting it out as long as possible for the chance to get my VBAC. I have started EPO and have been doing lots of walking and bedroom activities to get things going. :) I'll keep you posted! Thanks again!!
  • Have you gone to a chiropractor or acupuncture? If you're not dilating yet, it *could* be that the baby isn't in a good position (which could also be why you're having "menstrual-like" pain - esp. if it's in your back).  I'd be trying to make sure the baby is in the best position to assist with dilation.

And yep - just keep doing what you're doing.  I know from experience that prodromal labor isn't very fun.

That baby WILL come out!!!  Best wishes!
